"L.U.N.A" Excerpt #1

They were all lined up in perfect orderly rows, prepared to have their progression of heat training judged. Luna glanced over her shoulder to see Feng watching her intently, she knew she was his apprentice and as such he took her success as his own, but he always seemed a little too intent on watching her. She quickly cleared the thought from her head to replace it with a peculiar sense that she was utterly insane for thinking it in the first pla- "Number 369!". The soldier's voice rang through Luna's ears, bringing her out of her contemplative state. The soldier held the magmapipe, the device used to measure heat of flames, using his serpentine tail. Luna quickly blew an ember into the pipe and watched as the liquid inside began to boil; the soldier flinched and his eyes widened in sudden shock but he soon settled and moved onto the next trainee. "Did I burn him?" she wondered and looked back over her shoulder to see Feng smirking in twisted glee at what he just witnessed, Luna gave an uncomfortable smile in return and quickly turned back to the ever familiar scene. A task that repeated over, and over, and over again, like a machine. Dull. Boring.
