Most people would call vampires ending bittersweet but I respectfully disagree.
On the surface, everyone’s ending seems fair and sweet, gilded in gold, but if you look further, think for just a moment, you realize on the inside, it’s all rotten.
Sure, apo lived to see Cherri, but the one who turned her is still alive, she never got her revenge, and she’s still cursed with an affliction she never wanted in the first place. Her militia comrades are either dead or still vampires. She still has to carry the guilt of being partially responsible for all their fates.
The town was saved, but at what cost? Martyn was so hopeful he would live to walk out of oakhurst, he was so close, but he never got to see another day. His death pushed his friend ren over the edge. He died believing he was killed by dark beings and corrupted allies. He died in fear, in anguish, minutes and feet apart of Martyn. He died never seeing the outside of oakhurst.
Pyro never even got a grave. He died never feeling true affection or love. He died, only to never be mourned.
Drift and Shelby lived, but like apo, their sire lives, and so does the curse they were forced to carry. Shelby is left with the burden of keeping her sire in check for all eternity. She got her revenge, but she’s left with the guilt of killing someone she once called family.
Scott claims hes changed, but for how long? He never got any consequences for the violence he inflicted on the town, to apo, to drift, to Shelby. He just got by to walk into the sunset as equals with the humans when he never was one in the first place.
Abolish is a weird one. He’s probably fine with being a half vampire, but did he want to carry the fact that he carries the legacy of own and Legundo? Did he want a life of responsibility for vampires?
Owen got what he deserved in the end: death and punishment. And yet, when he was reunited with Louis, he only looked at him with disappointment, pity. There was no warm embrace, no smile, not even a goodbye before Owen was sent to eternal damnation.
Pearl and Cleo probably got the happiest ending. They get to live in eternity in bliss with each other and Oscar. Pearl gave herself for the town, and she wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Most of oakhurst survived, but all of them have been scarred forever by this experience
