they stopped showing up to labs. so this next lab shall be in linux. GOOD LUCK DOING IT WITHOUT THE DUAL-BOOT LAB COMPUTERS
MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Grading these anatomy tests is really depressing me. I put a lot of effort into teaching, and my students tell me, and others, that they think I am a good teacher. Some of the students retaking this class claim I am much better than their previous instructors. Yet they are still bombing these exams.
I don't know what to do.
It is heart breaking. Most of these students aspire to go to med school, nursing school, PT programs, etc. Some of them will make it, many won't. We often speak of how competitive the application process is, but we forget how many dreams are crushed before the applications are even filled out.
The sad thing is, these aren't dumb students. Many of them are bright individuals and, with a little more work ethic, could really excel. But therein lies the problem. Each semester it seems that students want to work less and expect to get spoon fed more. We provide an all access lab, cadaver videos and plenty of time for instructor help (our labs are scheduled as two hours, but lecturing usually only lasts one which provides extra time for help), not to mention the review sessions before each test. Somehow, as we increase the resources to the students, the grades continue to decline.
From what I hear, this isn't just our school. There are grumblings all over of students performing worse, a product of what I call the Google generation. We have trained students that all the answers can be found in a browser window, and so there is no need to spend time memorizing or learning. I am afraid the end result of this will be worse health care professionals; or just worst professionals in general.
I hope I am wrong, but these tests make me fear I am right.
