As a way to transition Corner of the Room from fine art to decor-focused, I've been wanting to come up with a unique decoration for every holiday and season. I've been outgrowing a number of jeans too, so when I got this idea for a wreath it only made sense to use my jeans instead of buying denim ribbon. I figured one leg of jeans for every wreath (that's about one pair of shorts), and that I would be able to reproduce these wreaths until I ran out of jeans and sell them at $40 apiece. After all that blood sweat and tears, and spending my Memorial Day on the couch (I don't feel good anyway), I have come to the conclusion that these are definitely not worth it. So I'd like to share the idea with you! I started with a wire wreath frame. Probably about 12 inches. Using red burlap, a red bandanna, white and ivory lace repurposed from my wedding decorations, and old jeans (I used a pair of shorts and half a pair of capris), I cut the materials into 8 inch strips (thickness varied, and if you have thick material, it needs to be more like 9-10). You know the material around the wire, alternating the colors (I did classic knots for some, but folding the material in half, looping over, and pulling through the loop is the best knot...it takes up more space.) I did have to cheat and buy extra lace and burlap too. Ugh. Since our kitchen is "barn-themed," the burlap and denim accent very nicely. I'll keep ya posted on real patriotic decorations for sale.
