LACO (Lacher & Co.) was founded in 1925 by Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel in Pforzheim, Germany - a hotbed for German watchmaking. In the mid 1930s the now legendary flieger or "Beobachtungsuhrwent" went into production. It's notable that the dial was designed by the German government and provided to manufacturers - including Laco-Durowe. In fact five manufacturers – four German and one Swiss – supplied the Luftwaffe. In Germany: @alangesoehne, @wempe , Lacher & Company/Durowe (Laco), @iwcwatches and Walter Storz (@stowawatches) Wempe and Stowa used Swiss movements; Wempe used the Thommen cal. 31, Stowa used the Unitas cal. 2812. Lange used its big cal. 48 and then its cal. 48.1, and Laco used its (Durowe) cal. 5 – the only two companies to use in-house German movements. Ludwig sold Laco-Durowe to @timex in 1959, though the name a logo was reacquired in 1988 by Frieda' business partner and Horst Günther, who's son runs the company today. While the other brands might offer watered down versions of the original design, Laco carefully recreated the design of the original watch down to the smallest detail, from the dial design to the FL23883 engraved on the case’s side making it the best historical choice for those looking for a flieger. 📷 from @laco1925 👌
