Certain people want to know, what are YOUR favorite fics and why? 🙄
Turnaround is fair play, huh? XD Fine then, favorite fics ahoy! Bear in mind, though, that this is more a sampling than a comprehensive list. The entire list would probably break my blog. In no particular order:
Sachi and Waiting on a Wish by Quillwing717. I’m pretty sure everyone who follows me has seen me squealing about these fics multiple times by now, so suffice it to say: Sachi has been my favorite fanfic for a literal decade. It’s still my favorite of all time. And Waiting on a Wish is a damn close second. Quill’s writing is just so, so good: full of wonderful details and organic dialogue and great pacing. She should be publishing, honestly.
Speed Dating for Dummies by Reinamy. It’s the perfect marriage of humor and fluff, and the writing is damn fine.
Routine and Soulmates by Inunanna - Nanna Parth (@inunanna). I love how Nanna writes InuKag; she digs down deep into their interior lives—without ever getting too wordy or heavy-handed about it, which is freaking impressive—and makes them feel like real, breathing people. She’s not afraid to get into the complexity of their relationship, either. That’s why I love both of these fics, I think: they’re both good examples of Nanna’s skill with characterization and relationship development.
Folktale by HoneyBee31. I LOVE this fic. The setting/ambiance, the magical realism, the InuKag characterization and relationship development… it’s just so good. I’ve reread it a lot.
Shikigami by Elvirus. Although this fic is incomplete, I still love to reread it because it’s so fucking funny. And the characterization is so good, it could be straight out of canon.
I Am Waiting for Something to Go Wrong by Zeh Wulf. Literally the only song fic I’ve ever liked, because the lyrics actually contribute to the narrative. And I just think it’s a satisfying one-shot, storywise.
Therapeutic by everstar. IT’S THE CUTEST ONE-SHOT EVER, OKAY? It’s the kind of InuKag fluff I live for, largely because Inuyasha is completely in-character and yet we still get to see his caring side, and just aldjalgkjdlagjlg. Love it.
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not by TouchofPixieDust. It sends me to fluff heaven (and yet it still has that hint of angst in the beginning).
Phony Digits and Risks by StoatsandWeasels (@stoatsandweasels). No one writes InuKag banter better than Stoats, I swear. Phony Digits is a prime example. It’s so funny and sweet and yet still has some angsty punch to it. We all need more of Stoats’ writing in our lives tbh.
Elemental: A Feudal Soap Opera by Xi Hou Jun. I reread this one when I’m in the mood for romantic drama and tension. Don’t let the title fool you: while it’s certainly full of that good good drama, it’s well written! It is incomplete, though, which is a bummer.
The Half Breed’s Wife and Shattered and Remade by Gypsyn (@gypsin). Any InuKag shipper should be reading The Half Breed’s Wife, honestly: it has such great romantic development and pacing, and her characterization is spot on. She’s one of my favorite writers for Inuyasha’s perspective, because she absolutely nails his voice. And Gypsyn’s writing is just a treat to read, full of wonderful lines and imagery. BASICALLY y’all should be reading all of her fics.
Chronicles and Metamorphosis by Sueric. These are just classic fics, imo. Really good characterization all around (this author also does a great job with Inuyasha’s voice), and some truly excellent fluff mixed with romantic angst.
Feminine Wiles by grandlarseny. One of my all time favorite one-shots, because it’s so funny and lighthearted and in-character.
Unexpected, Unspoken, and Inevitable by forthright. This author is so good at drabbles, it ain’t even funny. They pack a lot of punch in a very compact space. Unexpected, as you know, is just dang awesome. Love love love the patient build-up to the romance, and the adorable modern school setting, and Inuyasha and Shippo’s fraternal relationship… just love it. Unspoken and Inevitable are two of my favorite drabble/one-shot collections, because forthright is a freaking master of short fiction.
I Knew You Before I Met You and I Hear Your Silence by Keichanz (@keichanz), the first because it’s full of InuKag flirting and protective Inuyasha, the second because it creates so many beautiful small moments between Inuyasha and Kagome that you just KNOW happened between them, and Kei makes them totally believable and real, and UGH, MY HEART.
That Flesh of Mine, Not Much Longer Would You Be Mine, and Tell Me I’m Crazy by WitchyGirl99. Do I even need to explain why I love these, beyond “they’re WitchyGirl fics”?? They’re all so well-written, with delectable InuKag romances, and like… you just can’t go wrong with any of them.
Like, literally EVERYTHING written by @artistefish, with special shout-outs to Dizzy Defense for an Underdog, Freak Attraction, and The Delinquent Boyfriend. Artiste is so good at writing Inuyasha and Kagome in character. Even in her AUs, the characters feel like they jumped right out of canon.
And finally, a couple honorable mentions for fics I’ve just recently read, but can already tell will become favorites.
Your Voice by EnelyaTheSmall (@lacyjaybird), because it’s such a goddamn adorable modern-day InuKag romp, but it also has teeth to it because it’s RIPPING MY HEART OUT ALREADY, AUGH.
Beyond the Wall by Nyx Avarielle, because it has such interesting world-building, and I’m really enjoying the slow getting-to-know-you dance for InuKag.
Vigilante by sankontesu (@sankontesu), because I’ve read it three or four times already, and any fic that keeps you coming back to it is a good fic. And like, damn: that InuKag setup? Golden. I want more so badly.
There you go, my dude. d(^__^)b
