It was morbidly hot in your living room. Beads of sweat could be seen coming down your forehead. Even with the fan on it didn’t help, in fact you thought it made it worse.
What didn’t make it better was your boyfriend Valko was resting his head on your lap. His fingers tracing patterns on your thighs while breathing in and out heavily.
“Baby, off my lap” you whined, “it’s hot”
He groaned before hesitantly lifting his head up, his eyes roaming your face, noticing the sweat coming down your forehead.
You looked at him, to your surprise he wasn’t sweating. Hell, was he even hot?
“How are you not sweating?” “How are you sweating?” You scoffed at that, did he really just ask you that? “Are you not hot?” He shook his head, “nope, I’m completely cool” “Lucky” you muttered under your breath. You felt like the heat was pouring down on you from every angle, making it impossible to breathe.
“How ‘bout we go for a walk. Get fresh air” you were hesitant, what if it was hot outside like it was inside. Quite frankly you couldn’t handle heatwave from outside.
You were tempted to refuse, yet when you saw those big puppy eyes you couldn’t help but give in. With a sigh you agree. “Fine”
You put on something simply really. Shorts, a shirt and shoes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty.
Valko was already beating you out the door. Clearly he was excited. “Come on bae” with a sigh you grab a water bottle and walk out the door.
To your surprise it was cool. The fresh air hit you like no other, the heat inside the house immediately being forgotten.
You sigh contently, “see, it’s not that bad” he inquired. You ignored him completely.
You started walking, Valko trailing not far behind you. His tail wrapped around your waist loosely. Even when doing simple things his tail would always find you. He couldn’t help but cling to you, no matter what.
While on the trail it had gotten a little boring, conversation had ended a while ago. The silence was suffocating. But that was when you proposed something, a little game.
His eye brow quirked up, a smirk forming on his lips. “Hide and seek? You sure, I mean I know these woods better than you do.”
Even though he did know the woods like the back of his hand, you were confident you could do it. “Yes I’m sure”
He looked at you, really looked at you. You were much smaller, could barely even touch his head without having to jump. And you weren’t the quietest of the bunch.
He knew he would win yet he agreed anyway. “Alright little minx, I’ll take on the challenge.” Your eyes lit up with excitement. “I’ll give you a head start, minx. Starting now.”
You ran as far as you could go, until you couldn’t hear him counting to thirty.
You decided your hiding spot would be on top of a tree branch. You sat quietly on the branch. Surprisingly it held your weight, considering how it seemed ready to break at any movement.
It was silent for a few. So silent you could hear the birds flying around, small animals making noises.
But then you heard it, a branch breaking, and that was the only sign that you needed to tell you that he was near.
From below you could hear growling of some sort, leaves rustling, and branches breaking. You looked down and surprisingly saw no one.
For a second you were worried. Were you alone? Had he decided to leave in these woods alone?
That thought didn’t last long as you heard a voice, “found you.”
You being easily startled ended up falling to the ground. You ended up scraping your forehead alongside a rock.
You let a whimper in pain, and instantly he was at your side. His eyes wide and apologetic. “Are you ok? Let me see” his voice was laced with fear and worry. He titled your chin so you could face him.
His eyes trailed over the scarp which would soon leave a scar.
He easily picked you up in his arms, one arm around your waist, the other behind holding your thighs.
He held you tight, his grip never loosening, afraid you might slip through his fingers if he even loosened his grip for a moment.
The house came into sight, he walked up to the porch, he took his arm away from your waist and opened the door. It was easy considering you forgot to lock the door.
He placed you on the couch, “don’t move” you wanted to protest, say you were fine and that you weren’t some child. But you could see it in his eyes, the way he analyzed the scar like he had done it himself.
He went into the bathroom, you could hear a few things being moved around, things being taken out and put back.
Then he came out with a first aid kit. He sat next to you, he placed the aid kit on the coffee table. He then lifted you up and placed you on his lap. Your legs straddling his thighs.
After cleaning you up, you finally broke the silence. “Why do you act like it’s your fault? I got hurt on my own.” You said, your eyes locking with his. “If I hadn’t spooked you this wouldn’t have happened.” “I was the one who offered the game, it is not your fault. It’s a little scratch is all. It’ll heal in no time.” He sighed and nodded, he kissed your bandage wound and smiled.
His breath hitched for a moment, like he wasn’t expecting you to say it. “I love you too little minx”
