Show: Once Upon A Mattress Vocal Part: Soprano Vocal Range: E3-A5 Role: Ensemble or Lady Larken I was considering Lusty Month of May and Before I Gaze At You Again from Camelot, Feelings from Apple Tree, and 16 Going on 17 from Sound of Music. Thank you!
I just did this show last year! “Lusty Month of May” would be the best choice of the ones you’ve listed. Your instincts were really good with looking at Camelot. If you want a couple of other choices, “Show Me” from My Fair Lady could work nicely. When I did Mattress, our Larken used “If I Were A Bell” which could work, “A Wonderful Guy” from South Pacific (it’s a little lower, but it’s very sweet and fun). Break all the legs!
i love act 1 song reprises in act 2 songs.
when larken starts singing 'in a little while' during 'yesterday i loved you'? im melting.
the five seconds of 'come to your senses' in 'why'? im crying.
'waving through a window' sweeping in during 'words fail'? my heart is on the floor in a million little pieces
“Forever hand in glove is the way I have it planned; but I'll only stay in love if the glove contains your hand...”
Day 347: Lady Larken (Once Upon a Mattress)
Cool Thing That Happened in Rehearsal
So some people are in the auditorium where we're rehearsing Once Upon a Mattress to set up for a Town Hall meeting later in the evening. The last thing we did was run through "Shy," and then we were dismissed. Then this guy who was helping set up goes over to the director and asks "So, who's Sir Harry?" Director calls my boyfriend over and the guy introduced himself. It turns out this guy played Sir Harry when he was in high school. They called over the girl playing Lady Larken, and the guy remembered the name of the girl who played Larken alongside him and even knew what she was doing now. He and my boyfriend even sang a couple lines from one of the show's songs, and let me tell you- this guy still had it. He sounded AWESOME. We told him we hoped to see him at our show. So, yeah. That was pretty cool.
Sorry for this oddly specific question, but do you know what Lady Larken's range is in the song 'Yesterday I Loved You' from Once Upon a Mattress?
That I don’t know... I don’t have the score for that show.
Followers, anybody know?
Yesterday you seemed as lovely to me As anyone ever could be Now I see what tricks my eyes can play. Yesterday I must have been utterly blind Or else I was out of my mind For I find you so much lovelier today
