Random but I think Trudy and Ladybird would be unlikely besties.
Known each other for years and reconnected when Ladybird moved back to Brokenwood for Errol's conditional release
Dated very briefly as teenagers but quickly decided to keep things platonic (but still went to prom together)
Both are older sisters; Ladybird got parentified more due to the oodles of younger Oadlings around versus just Ray for Trudy, but it's still definitely a point of relateability between them
Trudy used to (and let's be honest still would) beat up people who made bigoted remarks about Ladybird
They like to run errands together and, while of course Trudy's no narc, they do usually end up gossiping sharing info about happenings around town
A lot of their initially simple trips turn into minor oddesys (usually in pursuit of things for Ray's next "Aspirational" project, but sometimes it's one of theirs)
Ladybird knows *about* Trudy going to prison, but has never really asked her about it since she knows it's a very painful & private thing, and she appreciates Trudy for being gentler towards Errol than she's usually inclined to be towards Johnny
Trudy makes Ray purchase goods from Ladybird's shop for the pub menu (he's fairly enthusiastic about it tbh)
Ladybird is one of the very few people who's allowed to be in any way touchy towards Trudy (she's respectful of course, but is generally a somewhat tactile person).
Trudy loves going with Ladybird out to the farm out of town where the two "aunties" live because it's usually a day trip with lots of cards and drinking in the evening hours
kinda duo (a somewhat recurring theme with Ladybird)
