Something Of Note
So obviously there’s a lot of big things that happened in the Beach Episode of Digital Circus, but I had a little thought. Under the cut so people who haven’t seen it yet can avoid being spoiled.
Reread the book recently and noticed that right before the final battle with the Magic Knights, Zagato stands on a rock platform like Ascot does. While Ascot is a natural summoner, he doesn't seem to know any other types of spells until the second book, where he says Clef has been teaching him new spells that he can cast on his own. This made me wonder if Zagato taught Ascot that spell while Ascot was working for him, which would be interesting.
Alternatively, if he couldn't cast spells on his own before, could Zagato have helped create his floating platform? Ascot got taller in the second book, but (as far as we can tell) he never tries to make another platform by himself, even if it could be useful. Maybe it wasn't a spell he could cast on his own? If that’s the case, his original platform probably crumbled when Zagato died.
On one hand I’m excited for whatever new project is going on for Rayearth, even though we don’t know much. Obviously anxious too as there have been so many remake horror stories recently, and I’m extremely attached to the original. One small thing that makes me a little sad though is Fuu’s hair.
Like it’s a small thing, and really it’s not going to affect the rest of the story. Artists have been drawing her with light blonde hair since forever, and that’s fine. I just find her dirty-blonde hair really charming, and it sets her apart from Emeraude.
Even in the book’s profiles her hair is more of this dark gold color that’s different from Emeraude’s. The photo of Presea at the bottom is there to show that the lighter blonde was an option for the original show, since Emeraude had it, but they chose to use the darker-gold color.
I know it’s a nitpick and really doesn’t change the rest of the story or anything. I just like the softness that the original color gives her palette. It’s just something I noticed.
It’s probably not intentional dirty-blond erasure, lol.
Rayearth Villians
I saw someone say they also enjoyed the found-family dynamic of the villains. I just wanted to put these images out there in case they haven’t seen them yet. Again, sorry about the garbage quality but these are from the 15th anniversary disc art gallery.
I like to imagine that Lafarga took the picture of Caldina and Ascot, and Inova took the rest that he wasn’t present in. It’s sillier that way. Also there is this one from the extra books.
Lantis, what are you doing?
I was flipping through the character profiles on the season 2 discs for Rayearth and most of the characters are posed relatively normally and then there’s Lantis. Excuse the crummy image quality.
Geo, a cool back shot. Zazu is being introspective. Pretty normal for a profile page.
Nova and Debonair have a duel profile, and Eagle looks brooding, but that’s normal for him. Then there’s Lantis.
What are you doing, man?
Definitely made me cackle when I saw it.
Also bonus shout out to Primera, apparently she gets protection from Cefiro’s ancient gods? But I’m not sure if that means Mokona like in the book or maybe there are others out there in the anime universe. Maybe the Rune Gods?
Remembering the time my friend explained to me that they put their playlists together based on the mood and vibes of the song. Meanwhile I was over in the corner having thrown all my songs into one massive playlist with no particular order, and then getting whiplash when I’d go from The Hanging Tree to A True, True Friend.
