Cattails - July 2014 These reeds and bull rushes are along the southern edge of Lake Springfield. I particularly liked the way the large cattails provide depth to the total image. MWM

July 11, 8:00 am Takeoff - July 2014 You can see the “steps” in the water behind this Canada goose as she takes off from the water of Lake Springfield. Catching any bird taking off or landing on the water is a matter of a lot of patience and even more luck. MWM

T-Dock - July 2014 This T-Dock is on Lake Springfield just off East Lakeshore Drive from West Cottonhill Park. It was the middle of the afternoon on a Monday and not much was going on. I was surprised that there were no birds on the dock or in the nearby water. The loneliness of the scene, however, made for a great image. MWM

Great Blue - June 2014 There are turtles sunning themselves in this image also, but the main feature is a great blue heron standing at the edge of the water watching for fish to catch. Most people associate the great blue heron with Florida, but that is just their wintering ground. They fan out across the Midwest during the summer months and can be found at many small lakes and estuaries. This particular image was captured at Lake Springfield on the south edge of Springfield, Illinois. MWM
