Day 3: Horse

Lamorak would never the the greatest knight. This was a hard truth he had to swallow before he was even considered an adult. He was stuck in a corner, born to dream in a world full of seeing what he never could reach... So he had to make a choice; he had to choose his one niche, his one claim to glory, and master it beyond compare.

Of course, he chose horses. He had always had an affinity for the equestrian, growing up around steeds and mares, able to saddle them up without issue and calm them with but a look. He carried an aura about him that the large beasts respected, and so the Rider Knight found his own claim to glory, never once getting knocked off of his mount.

Not the greatest knight, but a great one. No one, not Kay, not Lancelot, not even Arthur could ever claim to be as skilled as he was when it came to horses. Even Percival couldn't compare.

It wasn't as flashy as some other titles, but it was his, and Lamorak was ready to fight to keep it that way.

When ranking the Knights by strength, do they mean physical strength or just overall power?

If you’re talking physical then Gawain would’ve at least been higher ranked than Geraint, no?

Overall power and I suppose potential.

In Lancelot's case, it's very much due to his well-roundedness in speed, strength, durability, etc. He's very hard to beat, even with incredible powers, hence his shock when he was captured and his relief when he realised it was because it was a god doing the work. Lancelot can usually figure out where he matches up with an opponent and then lean on a different fighting style to take the win (for example, against Gawain, Lancelot wouldn't try to overpower Gawain, but would shift to his speed or try to outsmart him).

Gawain is physically much stronger than Geraint. Gawain is physically stronger than Lancelot. But Geraint has the ability to turn someone's mind against them with his illusion magic and that degree of power is absolutely ridiculous when in the right hands.

And then there's Lamorak, who can hold his own against these people without even using his gravity powers. Lamorak has long since accepted that he won't be the greatest knight (Lancelot claimed that title and destiny when they were young, and Lamorak (and Geraint) quickly realised it — the difference between him and Geraint is that Lamorak accepted it while Geraint resented it). But that's honestly fine with him; Lamorak doesn't care for that particular form of glory. He wants to be the best at what he's best at (horseback riding, jousting, etc.) and to be a great knight. Great, not the best, but still legendary in his own little corner of talent and feats.

And then there's Galahad and Percival, who are definitely going to be the strongest knights when they grow up. Not even Lancelot will be able to hold a candle to them and he's going to be so proud.

And there is one knight who is going to get... Well, that's a spoiler. But let's say there's going to be a knight within the timeline of RtA who will achieve power far beyond anyone else.

Concept:

Kay and Lamorak fighting hard against a massive swarm of enemy soldiers, and Dindrane takes a moment, thinks it over, picks up the biggest zweihander she can find and says, "I'm an inventor, but..." and runs to join them in battle.

Hello! My version of the Knight’s backstories here we go!

(I will not be including Arthur because we already know how that happens, also these are very rough to leave room for the imagination and because I can’t remember a lot of the stories I made up.)

Gawain : The village has a wonderful harvest that year, bandits wanted a good “share” of the harvest. Bandits tried to basically burn the place down to get what they wanted, Gawain stopped them (obviously) and he felt so good about being able to stop the threat he decided that what he wanted to do in life was protect really everyone.

Lamorak(?) : Growing up a stable boy, Lamorak had a strange connection to most horses, he enjoyed riding and racing them whenever he had the chance. When he saw Knights jousting he fell in love, not just with the ability to ride and care for such a fine and strong horse but to have freedom. (Idk). He decided to become a knight so he could have the freedom to do what he loves, bring justice and ride his favorite pony. (Her name is lettuce)

Bors : he got bored (that’s literally it, was just bored so he decided to join a war. Turns out he’s a badass)

Those are all the folks I remember at the moment, if there’s anyone in specific you’d like to hear about lemme know and I shall type it up! (These are just fun to write)

I like Gawain's! It's a pretty simple story but he's a pretty simple man! He just wants to protect everything he loves with all his heart and all his might... Just like Knuckles does!

Lamorak's is nice too. I have a few things I would add but that's due to the characterisation I have for him (which I'll be able to put into future chapters of RtA and I'm looking forward to that!!) but I 100% agree that he grew up around horses and loved them since he was a child. Also his horse's name being Lettuce I love that so much.

I do actually have something in mind for Bors! It's not incredibly planned out but it's something that he'll be revealing in a future chapter of RtA... (unfortunately it isn't due to boredom like you predicted).
