A/N: Look at me, dropping in suddenly like I haven’t been missing for 7 months. Here’s a cute little thing. Hope you enjoy!
Dim light and the stench of alcohol dictated the atmosphere in the small, modest room. Their presence accompanied by two bodies, lost in the delight of one another. May the world burn down around them, and they’d never leave each other’s embrace.
As he laid his head on the other’s chest, the smaller man’s heart filled with joy at the sound of his lover’s heartbeat by his ear. He closed his eyes, panting, wrapping his arms around the other’s body.
“John,” he said, quietly.
John, a blink away from sleep, looks down at his boy, his love, with a soft smile.
“Alexander”
“The war is over.” Alexander said in a small voice.
“It is.”
“We won.” Alexander said, a moment looking overcome by grief, the next a fit of drunken giggles erupted from his body.
“We did,” John said, unable to contain his smile. He wrapped his arms around the other’s small body and kissed his head. Alexander laughed out in result, squeezing his body around John’s as well. Both turned into a ball of drunken giggles.
“Ah, I should drink more. You get prettier when I’m drunk.” Alexander looked up at John, smirk decorating his face. John just sighed.
“I agree. You’re less annoying when you’re drunk.” John said, mirroring the other’s smirk. Alexander gave a fake offended gasp, but soon let it go and once again laid his head on John’s chest.
“I’m glad you’re here, Jack, I’m glad we’re here, together.” Alexander mumbled, eyes half closed as his finger circled an outline of John’s heart.
“I’m glad, too, my dear.” John said simply, running a hand through the knots of Alexander’s hair. “I’m always glad to be with you. Whenever I’m with you.”
Alexander looked up, quiet, studying his lover’s face. “Who knew I would love someone this much? I don’t know if God gave me a blessing or a curse the day he let me cross paths with you, John Laurens.”
John just laughed. Quiet, almost mournful.
“I’m serious,” Alexander couldn’t help but chuckle, “you’re my weakness, Laurens. I love you too much for my own good.”
John looked down into Alexander’s eyes. “I share the sentiment. You will kill me one day, Alexander Hamilton.” John said. For some reason, that sent a shiver through Alexander’s body.
“I’m… tired.” Alexander said, faced buried to John’s chest and eyes heavily hooded from sleep and his drunken state.
“Let’s sleep, darling. We deserve it,” John’s voice trailed out.
John/Alexander, 1400 words (approc.). John gets drunk, Alex is a worried boyf.
I have literally no excuse as to why this took me so long, I’m just lazy. But! I have lots of time to spare so will be writing a lot more frequently! So feel free to send me more
I am also working on another prompt I was sent months ago, expect that at some point in the week<3
Alex was home late.Again. For the fourth time that week, his work ethic had forced him to staybehind at his job (even if Washington, his boss, insisted that Alex go home). Alex’s brain, as it often did,had wracked him with ideas and thoughts and he just couldn’t stop writing.
So here he was, at theungodly hour of 1am, creeping around the apartment because John was probablyasleep, if the eerie silence was anything to go by. Alex couldn’t say be blamedhis boyfriend. For the past week John would be up and waiting for him to comehome, but tonight (or, rather, this morning) Alex had really set the boundariesanew. He did manage to pick up a boxof John’s favourites chocolates at the 24-hour garage, as a thank you/apology.
Alex himself wasexhausted, his body practically screaming for a rest, so he decided to leaveshowering for the morning, hygiene be damned. He’d much rather wake up feelinga little disgusted than collapsing in the shower (and, besides, even if he didfall asleep in the shower John would inevitably wake up looking for him, andAlex really didn’t want to make him worry after the week they’ve both endured).
After placing thechocolates on the kitchen-table, Alexander made a bee-line for the bedroom. Hejust barely kicked his shoes off when he opened the door, not bothering tocontain an escaped yawn as he slumped onto his side of the bed.
Huh.
Alex fumbled around onthe bed, reaching to the right side for that familiar warmth he couldn’t seemto find, only—
“John?” Alex called out, sitting upright immediately and peering around the bedroom. He was met with asmuch darkness as before, just catching glimpses of furniture outlines. But noJohn.
Alex was usually a calm, collected person when it came to his boyfriend’s antics. He wasn’t the jealoustype, at least not as much as John could be, and had no quarrels with himstaying out late. Of course he didn’t! John was an adult.
But it’s 1am.
And as the screen of hisphone illuminated his face, Alex saw no text messages. No missed calls.
And it was 1am.
There was immediately avery prominent thud, thump of hisheart in his chest as he speed-dialled John.
And then there was theprolonged beep, beep, beep, whichAlex swore was mocking him as the seconds continued to tick by.
“Come on, John,” Alexfound himself mumbling. By this point he was pacing furiously around theapartment, checking in every room and cupboard. He even checked in the fridge, although he wasn’t quite sure why. “Answer the phone, damni—“
“Heeeey babe!” Came theslurred response, mingled with too-loud music that blared through the speakers.
“Hi?” Alex winced, pulling the phone away from his ear. “Where are you?.”
“What, you missing me inyour—“ hiccup “—bed already,Alexandeeeer?”
Alex assumed that Johnwas trying to sound sexy, and if notfor his overwhelming concern he probably would have found the whole ordealhilarious. So instead, Alex deadpanned, “How much have you had to drink?”
“I’m not sure?Probably—“ There was a loaded pause. “Oh my—yes!I love this song!”
Alex suppressed a sigh, Too much, apparently.
“Do I need to come and get you?” Alex asked, his tone becoming a littlewarmer.
“Yeah, yeah. Come over here!” John said with a chuckle, a sound whichnever failed to make Alex’s chest feel warm and fuzzy.
Try as he might, Alex couldn’t suppress a smile.
“Alright, where are you?”
It took an extra 5 minutes for Alex to decipher an appropriate responsefrom his overly-drunk and humoured boyfriend, and normally Alex wouldn’t mind, but he could hear some heated discussion happening in the background, and that usuallyended in disaster.
“Alright, I’ll be there in 10 minutes.”
John’s spoke in a whisper, “Pssssssst, Alex,”
“Yes?”
“There’s some asshole back here,”
Alex’s heart did that horrible thing where felt like it had dropped tohis gut. “Don’t do anything, John. Just—wait outside for me?”
“Sureeeeeee.”
Alex decided it would probably be best just to hang up, grab his keysand launch himself into the drivers seat. Speeding down small city-streetsprobably wasn’t his wisest decision, but the roads were pretty empty. And no-onewas watching. And he was anxious. Oh, was he anxious. His mind was racing. Oh god, what if something happens? Is anyoneeven there with him? But, he’s an adult he can go out with himself—but—
He shook his head of thoughts as he curved into a park space, notbothering to lock the car as he got out (okay, so perhaps he forgot, but that’sbeside the point).
Alex didn’t have to look far, really. In the darkened street, the onehouse with multicoloured lights seeping from all windows and music blaring fromthe inside stood out like a sore-thumb. Having said that, Alex didn’t recognisethis house, a fact which was both intriguing and worrying.
He readied his fists because he doubted anyone would here a subtle knock, knock on the door. If needs be,he would (attempt to) kick the door down, which he realised may not be a veryrealistic goal but he also realised he was a very worried boyfriend, and doorsare no match for very worried boyfriends.
He lifted his fist up to the door when it opened.
“Alex!”
“John!” He couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips. His fistquickly delved into a supporting hand on the shoulder, because John wasswaying. “John, I almost punched you.”
The taller of the two frowned. “That’s meaaaaan. You need to drink!Yeah.”
“No. I don’t.” Alex bit hislip and tentatively asked, “Are you alright? What happened to that, uh‘asshole’?”
“Um—”
As if on cue, there was some brash shouting in the distance. Alexattempted to tune out the offensive language; if he got mad then John certainlywould and Alex just wanted him home.
John tried to smile, “I might have punched him.”
“Welp, we’re going. Come on,” his grip on the others’ shouldertightened, and he began to drag him out of the house and down the street. Johnwas obviously having difficulties walking in a straight line, so naturally Alexsupported him with a hand to the waist.
“Don’t you want to, um” hiccup, “goback?” He asked, leaning over to Alex and nuzzling into his neck. Johns awkwardposition was making it difficult for Alexto walk in a straight line, now.
“No, John. I don’t.” They neared the car and Alex helped his boyfriendinto the passenger seat, ignoring Johns insistences that he didn’t need helpbecause clearly, he did; John was using the wrong seatbelt, for a start. “John, darling, that’s my seatbelt. Here, let me do yours.”
When Alex finally, finally gotinto the drivers seat and began to drive away, John leaned over to him andpositively purred.
“Aleeex, why wont you love me?”
“I am trying to drive…?”
“You’re angry.”
Alex frowned. He turned a corner, driving at a considerably slower speedthis time. “Not angry. A little annoyed, perhaps.”
“Whyyyyy?” John asked, prodding Alex’s cheek. Neither of them knew whyhe did that for, really.
Alex didn’t answer until they had pulled into park by the flat-complex.The other had spent much of the journey mumbling to himself about something;Alex couldn’t really make any of it out.
“John.” Alex turned to him, “I love you. You know I do. Just,” he huffed.“But, right now it’s one-fourty a.m, and I understand you’re anadult, but one call or text doesn’t go amiss. I was worried.”
John proceeded to poke his boyfriend again. Alex was poised betweengiving in and laughing, because god was John Laurens cute, or being veryannoyed and irritated. He decided to go for the latter, because he wouldn’t forgive himself if this happened again.
“I was worried. I was speeding to get you because I thought youwere gonna get in a fight. Again.”
John beamed, “You’re so cute when you’re all worried.”
Alex pouted. He realised that this was probably a conversation to havewith sober-John, since drunk-John didn’t seem to be computing all that wellright now.
He helped his boyfriend to their bedroom, deciding to leave the apology/thank-youchocolates for tomorrow, too. He wasn’t all that surprised when John collapsedonto their bed, be it from vertigo or sheer exhaustion. Honestly, it could havebeen both.
He mumbled into the pillows, “I love yoou so much, babe. So, so much.”
Alex smiled. “I love you too.” He nudged him, “Hey, don’t you want to get in your PJs?”
But there was no response other than the gentle, slowed breathing thatcame with sleep. Alex crept from the room, grabbed a glass of water and two-paracetamoltablets and put them on the bedside table beside John.
After changing into his own pyjamas, he laid down in bed and was relieved to feel thatfamiliar-warmth at his side again, where it belonged. Still, he made a mental note to have careful words with John when they awoke.
Prompt I want it to be a surprise so it’s at the end

John looked up from where he sat near a grassy hill when he heard the faint noise of the gate closing. He saw Alexander carrying a basket and a blanket. John felt his lips lift into a smile. He came. John waved, but Alex hadn't seen; he was busy closing the gate. John waited for Alex to meet him where he stood at the foot of the hill. Once Alexander was close, John raced up the hill. Alex soon caught up.
"Hey, John. Happy birthday." John caught Alex smiling as he laid out the blanket and set up the food.
"Thanks, Alexander. But you know that you coming here is enough. You didn't have to bring a picnic," John chuckled but sat on the blanket anyway. Alexander began talking, occasionally eating the food he'd brought along in his basket.
"I wish I could come more often, Jack. Washington is having me write more."
"I don't mind, Alex. Just as long as I get to see you, then I'll be alright. You should still take a break if you get too stressed with your writings," John reminded and leaned against the stone he'd sat near. He wasn't hungry, so he let Alexander eat alone. He didn't seem to mind, as he hadn't made a comment on it yet. The two sat in a comfortable silence while Alex ate, John watching him, occasionally looking around.
"Well, I should be going, now. Goodbye, John." John watched as Alex leaned in to kiss John, eyes closed. John went to embrace Alex but shivered as Alex phased through John. Alex kissed the headstone John leaned against. Alex sat up again and sighed.
"I can't wait to see you again, John." Alex packed up everything into the basket. John stood up with Alex and watched as he left the graveyard.
"Goodbye, my love," John breathed out.

SEND ME A PROMPT!
John drifted in and out of sleep. Dreams came and went like passing tides, sometimes merging into one another and, at other times, ending so abruptly thathe jolted back to reality. This would happen, sometimes. Sometimes themonstrosities of war; the ear-crackling booms, the heart-wrenching scents and the soul-draining cries, became too much to bear.Sleep had always been an adequate form of escape, a suitable type of rest, butnow even that had been taken from him.
He ran a hand through his mess and mass of hair. He had to remind himselfto breathe, just breathe, before hecould even attempt opening his tent. To get out, to get some fresh air, to forget.
But, even then, his fingers trembled against his will.
After many attempts, he finally felt the bite of cold air. The sensation ofit scratching past his skin cleared his mind. He breathed; allowed the icyfangs to claw their way down his throat. But then he caught something; an intrudingwarmth, a sickly scent of burning wood. He paused, and turned in its direction.
Someone was already up.
Someone was there, prodding the ashes of a blazing fire as if to diminishthe fresh, freezing air.
The time it took for John Laurens to recognize that smooth olive-skin,those raven curls and that lanky frame was enough time for the memories toreturn. It was enough for him to hear distant screams, distant cackles and bang!
He felt himself falling. Felt the discarded leaves beneath him, the veryearth, slide and twist beneath his feet. He felt himself decline, further andfurther into the battlefield; into the world of the dead, dead, dead bodies, staring at him with unseeing eyes, calling to him with unspoken voices andlonging for him with an unforgiving grip—
“Laurens!”
He came back to reality with a flinch.
Alex was there, staring at him. His eyes, dark and wholesome and knowing, became an anchor. Laurens openly stared at them; bore into them, so as to keephimself grounded.
“John, are you with me?” Alex spoke in a hushed tone. His hand ghosted overJohn’s shoulder, before returning to his side. “Your eyes seemed to be distant.”
He scrunched his face up to try and battle the looming headache. “Oh, Alex…”He trailed, swaying slightly. “My apologies. I…I sometimes, I…”
Laurens may have lost his words, but Alex’s were always steadfast on histongue.
“I understand. You do not need to explain what is so clearly expressed byyour emotions. Come by the fire—it will be warmer there.”
John shook his head, an action he soon regretted after his brain becamewracked with throbs. “N-No, Alexander. The cold helps me to think.”
“Very well. We shall sit here, then?”
Laurens was taken aback. “You wish to sit with me?”
The follow-up to that question was left unsaid, but it hung clearly in theair; me, the soldier who is deemed braveand yet cannot face sleep for fear of nightmares; me, the soldier who hath nonebut oneself; me, the soldier, who is sinful enough to love you.
“Of course, my dear Laurens. You seem troubled, and yet are my friend; so Ishall remain with you.” Alexander paused. “We will sit here?”
“Somewhere away from the tent. It plagues my mind with unhappy thoughts.”
“Very well!” Alexander beamed, and when he did, his eyes seemed alight withthe very stars they reflected. He reached forward and took John’s wrist, turning and dragging him somewhere within the forest.
John Laurens was too tired and too infatuated to say no. He was tootrustful, too, it seemed; so he followed this man, this glorious and respectfuland wonderful person, into the looming darkness of the trees. The moon and thedancing stars above provided minimal lighting. But, Alexander seemed to knowthe way, paving his way through the trees and the roots almost elegantly.
Eventually, they reached a lone lake.
Alexander collapsed by its edge, gazing up at his friend with a grin whichcould only be described as smug.
“Does this suit your fancy?” Alexander said, a little louder now that theywere free of prying ears.
“It is quite possibly the most remarkable landscape I have seen.” Heagreed, and sat down beside Alexander. He stared into the water, ignoring hisreflection and instead choosing to note the constellations; marvel at thediamonds above, enveloped by darkness; memorize the patterns, the swirls, ofthe moon.
He did not see Alexander, who was too busy studying him. “Yes, but, my dearLaurens, not more beautiful than the landscape that is yourself.”
He knew what Alex had said; and he knew that Alex knew what he has said. This was a man whose thoughts formed direct connections with his mouth; everyword calculated and true. John hoped the darkness hid the growing redness ofhis cheeks. “Why do you flatter me so, Alexander?”
Alex chuckled. “It is just that I like to prove you wrong.”
John’s heart sunk a little further. Youcould sink even further in the lake, his thoughts suggested. He shook hishead again, as if to try and rid them, before his head went throb and he gripped his temples.
“Oh, my dear John- whatever is it that troubles you? I did not mean for youto take offence, you should know that—“
“No, no, Alexander—just stop. ‘Tis not you. The horrors of the battlefieldhaunt me and the men I hath watched die wish for me to join them, and alas, Alexander!Reality is not enough of a wager to keep me here, I fear. I am scared. I amcold and alone, and—“
It was warm. Warm hands drew around his body and gentle arms kept him fromtethering. A warm body, an alive and welcoming and soft body, pulled him close, and sweet nothings were whispered into his ear. They hushed him. The wordsalmost sung to him like a lullaby. And so John allowed his eyes to close;allowed the waterfall that was his tears to flood the shoulder he now breathedinto.
“I am alone, Alexander,” he wept. He did not care for the shame that preyedupon him, for the warm arms holding him kept it at bay. “I hath none which wantme but the dead, and yet I cannot die.”
“Shh,” Alex almost cradled him, rubbing soothing circles into his back withease. “You are not alone. What must I do to prove you wrong? If not in wordsdear Laurens, then…” He gripped onto the shivering man in his arms. “I willnever leave you, John, if you wager the same with me. You are not alone; I amhere.”
His sobs diminished into sniffles. “Reality would be bearable, were youwith me constantly.”
“Yours, forever,” Alexander promised, breaking apart for only a moment sothat he might place a kiss upon John’s forehead. His fingers; elegant as theywere, traced his cheeks so that the tears might be gone.
Something seemed to realise itself within John, and he flinched, daring topull away. “Why can it not be; ‘tis damnable. You are a righteous man,Alexander. You cannot love me in the way that I might you.”
Alexander only gripped him firmer, chin placed over the taller man’s head. “Hush,I will prove you wrong, my dear Laurens. Love knows no bounds; not the depthsof ones soul nor the amount of stars above can quantify it. I want you here.”
“How can you be so sure?” John asked, tears threatening to engulf himagain.
“I hath loved, and will love, you for as long as I live.”
Alex finally released thetaller man—but only so that he could plant a gentle kiss to those soft lips, eyelids shadowing his wondrous eyes. John became tense, at first, but forcedhimself to relax. Of course, he had wanted this for a time too long to measure;but the thought of kissing Alex was still one which made him feel a forcedguilt.
But no longer. He became lost in the sensation ofAlexander’s lips.
They parted only when they needed air.
It was John this time that hugged the smaller frame, nuzzling into his neck so that he might absorb the loving warmth that belongedthere.
Alexander smiled. “Yours, forever.”
And for the first time in many a year, John Laurens began to believe it. Likea distant light in the darkness, he began to feel wanted. The screams becamewhispers, the wounds became scars and the world around him became, for once, invitingly warm.
