Design notes under the cut

For my own tweaked canon universe/story/DB rewrite lol. Kitt’s the eldest amongst the crew, because she’s the most experienced racer, having raced for 5 years.

In canon, she’s set to fail as Artha the protagonist would always overtake her. So here I’ve tweaked her to be the group’s big sis figure, and maybe already in the Academy. I think she’s doing a 1 year mentoring program/shadowing of a crew, but Kitt being Kitt wouldn’t go with the Flares. Cue Kitt deciding the Penn crew would be a good Uni project lmao.

As for the other kid’s ages, Moord’s 20 and raced for 2 years ish. So more experienced than Artha, but not that much more. He’s also new to the role as leader of the Dragon Eyes, which was left in shambles since Zulay’s death and Word’s neglect of it. Unlike canon, my Moordryd’s morals are much much clearer and he outright does not want to do all the thieving and cheating. This tsundere kid eventually gets absorbed into this group (though he’s very close to the other DEs so they’re all one big unit of young adults with dragons lol).

As for Artha and Parm’s ages? I mostly only raised it because I want the war themes of the show taken more seriously, and i think an 18 yo Artha growing up and standing on his two feet is better for the story overall. I think Connor’s abandonment of them still happens, but unlike canon it’s Connor who did it + at the instruction of the other Priests (this group is also more involved because they’re dodgy as shit).

So far as villains/ antagonists go:

Word Paynn: Lesser Villain, eventually redeems himself by begrudgingly working with his son’s new friends and dropping his (and Zulay’s) plans

Connor: The whole connor/mortis shebang still happens I think, but it’s revealed to be the Priest’s instruction and Connor...... might have a chance of mending things with artha and lance. Perhaps Meggy executes the entire priesthood and leaves Connor fumbling to work with his kids + Word.

Priests: Have been pushing to breed Beau for the longest time and revive the DB. They’re more like a doomsday cult, prophesising Armeggadon’s return and are almost “Death in battle is most glorious” types... hence resulting in adults like Word and Connor.

Armeggadon: Half human half dragon monstrosity of legend. His end motive is purely wanton destruction or a second reckoning.
