Lancet Epee
RedStar, a fencing club in Chicago, originated Lancet Fencing. We have modified their rules to fit our facility and keep the logic of the bout more closely aligned with modern or classical fencing and the duel. That said, both Lancet under the Red Star rules and our Lancet Epee make for an interesting way to fence that provides a break from the standard 14 meters, 5 touches, 40 millisecond lock out of epee:
... a much larger terrain - ours is space constrained, but 32 feet by 15 feet, allowing 360 degree maneuvering.
... core targets are generally more valuable than the arms and legs.
... hits within one tempo of the first hit are considered.
... you can parry with the unarmed hand.
