ICA SF Curator Christine Koppes is in the house! I’m finishing-up a commission for Sunnyvale’s new City Hall development, and was thrilled to visit with @christinekoppes and have her eyes on my 9’ x 11’ tapestry. She brought along her adorable son Brooks who is a big fan of textiles, especially the neon yarns. 🧶 We talked about art and life and the art of juggling motherhood and a demanding career. I vividly remember those days— rich and rewarding and also stressful. Sending zen vibes to all the moms out there🥰 I’m thrilled that we have the @icasanfrancisco in the Bay, and looking forward to the current show Resting Our Eyes curated by @tfresh and @autumnbreon. I’m super excited about Christine’s upcoming summer programming—including exhibitions by LA artists @patrick_martinez_studio and @hayvkahraman and local painter @rupyctut . Thank you FARM Projects Gallery in Wellfleet, MA for finding a new home for Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates II, a fav of mine from an ongoing series that explores ideas about land and our natural world. Art writer @Abraham Storer beautifully described the work in this series in his review of my show at the FARM: “In Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates (Eyes in Sky), the environment seems to be both underwater and celestial. Sea grasses snake through a busy field of spider webs and stains of color. A star-studded midnight blue sky hovers above — and even there, swirling vines find their way up to the stars and start to coalesce into biomorphic forms. In another piece, Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates II, the nighttime sky becomes a network of neurons and synapses. This piece is titled Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates IV and it’s part of a series where I’m exploring an ongoing interest in all that’s to be found in nature: pattern, shape, color, sound, climate. For me they’re like visual poems or notations about daily backyard observations. I began these pieces at the start of shelter-in-place and they continue to hold my attention.
