How do you work on mindfulness?

practice : - )

all you need to do is try. mindfulness is about being in the process of being attentive to the present . it took a bit of getting used to for me but now im more in the habit.

things i do to help myself be mindful

- focus on what is grounding me physically (feet on the ground, walking, feeling a sense of impact or sitting on the ground, noticing sensations like softness/hardness)

- focus on sounds (ambient noises i.e. for me right now typing noises, faint noises of cars) hearing sounds without holding onto the meaning, try to concentrate on every sound you’re hearing at once without distinguishing them

- focus on bodily sensation, try to feel as much of what your body is feeling at any point . you can move from your feet (noticing everything, sensations at the bottom and top of your feet, and then inside of your foot even). or use the rhythm of your breath to scan your body up and down. noticing as much as you can about breathing, the flow of air in and out 

- focus on conversation - if you’re talking to someone, see if you can pay utmost attention, not just to what they’re saying and the meaning of what they’re saying, but body language as well (what are their eyes doing? how are they holding or moving their body?), and be curious and attentive to your own reactions and responses as well . this is easier / feels nicer with more open conversation, because theres less of a barrier and you dont feel as much of a need to analyse/interpret.

with all of these things, you will almost always drift away with your thoughts, espec. if you’re busy or stressed – thats really okay and not a sign that you’re failing. your mind thinks these thoughts for a reason. the thing is to accept your movement and bring it back to the present
