Language fun
I just learned “gedankenverloren” means “absentmindedly”. I’m looking at this German word with wonder. ‘Gedanken’ translates to ‘thoughts’, ‘verloren’ is ‘lost’. So you get something like ‘thoughts (are) lost’. Love it.
There was a funny moment at naginata today where the ladies didn't know the English word for a creature and I didn't know the Japanese word, so I was offered the description of "it's a worm but like dracula" which is the most hilarious way to describe leeches XD
hoes and hoesettes and hoetrons
cunts and cuntinos and cuntrons
whoros and whoras and whortrons
divas and divos and divons
So, in north-eastern switzerland there's the expression of "<person> isch voll putzig worde": "<person> has very (literally: fully) angry become". But the word putzig in high german means cute, and in (swiss) german could also denote the adverb for a cleaning person, though never used.
In light of the whole-language post that I reblogged recently, and another post that I did not reblog talking about the difference between the names of letters and the sounds those letters make, I have made a lettered list!
It is intended to clarify the difference between the "name" sound of a letter and the "easiest" or "starter-phonics" sound of a letter. Ok I lied it is not clarifying bc it depends on what accent you are using, I am (sadly) not using the fancy phonetic-dictionary-thing.
