¡你好 Langblr!

Sorry that I haven’t been uploading recently I’ve just been busy with uni preparations and stuff. I’m hoping to do some more Spanish stuff soon but in the meantime I’ve been starting to re-learn some basic Mandarin Chinese. The education system I was in “tried” to teach me Chinese throughout primary school but we never actually got to constructing even the most basic of phrases. So the language seems familiar even though I didn’t actually learn much of it previously.

The colours have been used to show what the brush stroke order is for each character. So far I’ve only learnt some basic vocab for food and weather as well as I have studied some ‘kangxi radicals’. I believe that the kangxi radicals are the smaller characters/symbols within full Chinese words/characters. So they are very useful to know as they can give hints to a unfamiliar character’s meaning. (I hope that made sense) I’m excited to learn more but I’ll have to find another app/resource to teach me Mandarin grammar because the app that I’m currently using only teaches vocab.

¡Hola Langblr!

Mario and Rabbid’s second world ‘Sherbet Desert’ or ‘Desierto Sorbete’ did not have much new vocab so not all the selected words are super relevant to the game. I’ve finished the third world now and will soon be completing the final world of the game… meaning I have almost completed my first game in a second language! I’ve decided that when I do complete the game I will also make a condensed list of some of my favorite new vocab that I learned. To avoid repeating myself and wasting paper I will type out the list into Tumblr itself instead of making a physical list in my Spanish book.

¡Hola Langblr!

I’ve been using this YouTube channel to listen to the Spanish versions of the soundtrack from the 1997 film Anastasia. This channel uploads the Spanish dubbed songs with lyrics for other Spanish speakers so it’s a fun and familiar way to practice your listening and reading skills!

Here are some songs that I recommend (though I already love their English versions too):

¡Hola Langblr!

I started a Spanish journal where I write about random things once a week to maintain my writing skills. To be honest my first entry ‘Si Mis Mascotas Fueran Los Humanos’ did not really challenge my abilities at all, I kept it pretty safe haha. I am running my writing through Microsoft Word just to make sure I’ve put the accents over the correct letters however there are probably still some mistakes here and there. I’ll try writing something a bit more out of my comfort zone next time.

So this is the final page of my various Mario and Rabbids Kingdom Battle vocab lists. Now I can say I have completed a game in another language! The final world of the game was called ‘Foso De Lava’ or ‘Lava Pit’ in the English version. Overall I thought the game was fun (fun enough to play through twice) and I think that there is a really good mixture of dialogue/story and puzzles/battles. The story elements give you the vocab and the battles give you a breather in between mountains of vocab. If you own the game already and are learning another language then you should switch the language and learn some new vocab! The language options are English, French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese (Simplified), Mandarin Chinese (Traditional), German, Dutch and Russian.

Btw I’m also feeling good because I have completed all the language goals I set for January.
