hello tumblr, i have some hot takes™ on the Lanque discourse i’d like to point out! I think Lanque’s entire character is a satirical callout of the fandom and how it treats popular characters, Think about it, the character is either treated like a ‘uwu sweet prince with a flower crown’ or ‘sinful slut who doesn’t know when to stop’. like??? how have y’all not noticed this??? as soon as i read both of Lanques routed it was like “holy shit hiveswap really did that” and I love it tbh!! Also, y’all losing your goddamn minds over Lanque having candy red nails and a handkerchief to match???? y’all remember that bright red is a symbol of rebellion and worn to “Look cool”. So, I don’t think the red nails signify a moirail/mateslrite that Lanque has/had.

As someone with DID, I'm not sure I like the hc floating around that NSFW route Lanque is a headmate or something. It seems too much like a desperate attempt to go "oh no that nasty sexual guy isn't Lanque, he's just a headmate! No this couldn't possibly play into reinforcing the 'evil headmate' stereotype how could you say that"

It just reeks of transphobia and ableism, and it really hurts me, as a hypersexual trans man with DID. Just let trans men be sexual without blaming it on fucking mental illness.

Lanque isn't remotely the first Alternian teen we've seen leverage sexual precociousness and emotional manipulation to control their peers, he's just slightly older and much better socialized than most of the others and therefore better at it. His behavior is destructive and predatory but also a predictable possible outcome of a society with no adult oversight of any kind and a strong awareness of looming inevitable mandatory sexual activity for the vast majority of the population.

In other words Lanque's behavior is a successful example of what Vriska was trying to do throughout much of Homestuck Act 5.

Finally saw Lanque’s route!

I can see why everyone’s angry bc I’ve done a little reading around here and there. What I got from his character from the r18 route was kinda just “teen rebellion” if that makes sense??? He’s presumably going to be sent away to be a sheltered nun and just wants to live a little dangerously???

I’m not trying to justify his actions either. Everyone is rightfully upset. Im just curious about how this will play into things as far as hiveswap goes.

That’s just the vibe I was getting from the route. I think Lanque’s personality is a mix of both routes. Because I can’t picture a rude ass Lanque playing with Wanshi. I’d like to believe that there is more to his character than what we’ve seen so far. After all, act 2 is not out yet and we have yet to see everyone progress???
