Have you ever brewed Tea Stones? ⠀ Lao Cha Tou (also called tea stones) are small clusters of tea leaves and buds that become stuck together due to the pectin that is created by tea buds when raw Shu Puerh material is left in humide piles to ferment. The pectin first “glues” together the leaves and buds, then once it dries it hardens to create tea stones. Lao Cha Tou pieces are collected from the general pile of Shu Puerh, but due to the dense structure of the tea stones the fermentation process is much slower. At this stage the flavour and aroma are so-so. Perhaps because of this until the beginning of the 21st century tea stones were not valued and were often discarded or used for other purposes. To complete the Lao Cha Tou process tea stones need to be additionally aged for approximately 2-4 years in a humid climate. ⠀ The results? An incredibly long lasting tea, almost never-ending and changing steep after steep.The aroma and flavour usually include a combination of fine woody, berry and fruit notes.
