Professor Flavio Almeida offers an interesting blend between the Berimbolo and the Lapel Guard. Instead of dismissing the technique the uses the effectiveness of both techniques together to form a stronger more secure method of executing the sweep. He uses the lapel guard to secure the position of the dela riva and the posture of his opponent. He then performs the berimbolo to complete the sweep of his opponent.
