Day 45 of posting cute creatures monstrosities we found on our field trip:

This beast is Saga hellenica, the largest predatory insect in Europe. It lives in the Mediterranean. We caught her in the middle of devouring a poor katydid. This insect doesn’t have any venom, but it has scary force. Its bite can seriously hurt you and the serrated edges of its legs can actually cut through skin. They are sharper than grabbers of mantises. These insects can also jump over 1.5 meters high, so stay away from them. Our entomology professor said that he’d feel uncomfortable holding this beast if it wasn’t occupied with prey. Here are some other angles:

This individual is a female because she has a long sword-like ovipositor. Males can be even larger.

I just realised I’d never seen keralis drawn, and after realising that I realised that it’s illegal to see him drawn simply because his skin is such a perfect representation of himself that there is no way to capture his vibe better than that dorky ass grin

so, i just saw the largest bug i've ever seen irl in my whole entire life, & it was fucking terrifying. the worst part is when i went back with my mom, we couldn't find it. it's hiding somewhere. so we're keeping the door closed for now...

Ceanothus silk moth taking a rest on the porch. It wouldn't open its wings, so I focused on the edge of one wing.

When your grandma calls you in the kitchen and asks how to preserve a moth..... I spent 30 minutes fixing a large moth that was the size of my hand with her hairspray.....
