Bakermat & LaShun Pace 🎶 Ain't Nobody
i love it when she gets hit by the Holy Ghost
RIP to legendary gospel singer/songwriter,
Lashun Pace (1961-2022)
good morning
the prime sonic of a vocal powerhouse.
all lashun pace had was a bass drum, a choir, n the tremble of an entire congregation.
the reason i’m in love n will always be in love with gospel music is for its storytelling abilities and its place as the root genre of so many other genres: blues, rhythm n blues, soul, rock n roll, you name it n i can link it back to gospel.
for her vocal performance here specifically, pace harkens on something much greater than herself. referencing angels (or ancestors), she simmers them in her vocal lines n projects them forwards for everyone to gather. as always, whether on the continent or in the diaspora, musically, certain things never change. the typical african call n response is oh so abundantly present in this song, connecting you to her wherever (or whenever you are).
technically, her timbre is rich and full of the life of 10 beings; all encompassed within 1! her stark growl accentuates her story, really driving home to the congregation just how much she indeed has been changed. her growls n vowel scats essentially serving as accents her testimony. the choir’s harmonies during her spoken piece are haunting, painting the severity of her testimony.
rest in peace to a legend, the only one who could who growl vocal runs and make you feel as though you lived her story.
the angels in heaven done signed my name
i’m agnostic until this song comes on
her growl was something ridiculous
