Day 9 - Grief/Mourning
For the Heroes meet SuperHeroes Event!
son of athena Peter Parker. Son of Apollo! Cooper Barton. feel free to read this post for added context of the barton family in this au.
Peter had a picture on his bedside table since he was twelve. They had taken it to celebrate making it through the border crisis alive. Peter had redecorated his room, four times since then but the picture had never moved from it's rightful place.
It's a simple picture, not one that would cause much notice at first glance. Two boys grin up at the camera, arms around each other. Their bright orange shirts loudly proclaimed the summer camp they both went to. They were both covered in dirt and seemed ecstatic about it. A rather sweet picture all things considered
It is only on a second glance, that one might realize things looked a little off. The boy on the right, was clearly a younger Peter. He looked happy enough, but there were deep shadows underneath his eyes. A fresh scar slashed it's way up one arm. His shirt was fixed in serval places with rough stitches from an inexperienced hand.
The boy on the left had blonde hair, long enough to hang in his eyes. His smile was smaller than the Peter's, not quite reaching his eyes. He wore black gloves, a weird choice considering it was the middle of summer. He looked thin, not quite in a teenager boy way but more as if he hadn't gotten enough food for a while. If one happened to be from a very specific part of Iowa, one might notice how much he resembled a certain missing person. Even though the Barton children were supposed to be long dead. The Parker's lived in New York City however, and such none of Peter's friends gave the picture a second glance.
Luckily for all involved, Clint Barton, and more importantly Natasha Romanoff never had a reason to step into Peter's bedroom. Tony Stark was the only Avenger who ever did, but he was no spy. For all that the man was a genius, he tended to have a rather one track mind at the best of times.
Regardless, no one took a second glance at the picture, not enough to notice the strangeness of it. It was an old picture, but there would never be a chance to take another one. Perhaps, they should have, before things got bad but they - as all children do - thought themselves invincible. The world taught them better than that.
It has been over a year since Peter watched his best friend die, cut down as he healed Peter. Over a year since he hid underneath Cooper Barton's cooling body in the hope that the monsters would not find him.
His skin bore the marks of it. His super-healing might have saved him that day, but it couldn't fix everything. Hydra's poison breath left it's marks. Peter wouldn't have it any other way. It was proof that it happen, his punishment for not being able to save his best friend.
Even during those first couple of painful months, the picture doesn't move. Even on days when looking at it was almost too much to bare. As time went on, it became easier. Some days, Peter would press his fingers against the glass and wish for a kinder world. One where Cooper got to see the person he became, the world he helped save. He had a feeling that Mr. Stark would have liked him.
Much later, he was selfishly glad that Cooper did not, because at least there is one person who would never forget him. Frozen in time, the boy in the picture would always recognize him. It was one person that Peter didn't have to leave behind, he got left behind first.
On his darker days, alone in his dingy apartment, with only the picture for company he hoped that Cooper had met Ben and May in Elysium. That perhaps, they were waiting for him there. That once he finally died, they would greet him with open arms.
On his darkest days, he was convinced that even the dead had forgotten him, and perhaps that was a good thing. There wasn't much about Peter Parker worth remembering these days.

“Money comes because people are naive” That was what Toji said when he revealed to his son that the occult business he was running was a good fake to get quick and easy money.
Megumi grew up knowing how to say what people wanted to hear, making up his own meanings to cards and reading lines from hands as if he even cared. He had become a professional liar and yet people continued to pay for him and his father to divine their future or cure their illnesses.
However, on the day Yuuji appears, Megumi begins to believe that there's something really dark in their world.

Excerpt:
Panic is a vice gripping her throat. Choking off her air supply and leaving her light-headed.
This goes against everything she’s ever believed. Talis is to be kept secret. Not presented to a group of people. A group of strangers no less.
But what has she got to lose at this point? Everyone here, besides Teddy, is an outcast on the run. Maybe it’s time she starts to let others in and learning how to trust.
If she wants to live a different life she has to make changes to the way she’s living. She has to start somewhere; it may as well be here.
