Last Hours
A gray day and quiet, With slow clouds of gray, And in dull air a cloud that falls, falls All day. The naked and stiff branches Of oak, elm, thorn, In the cold light are like men aged and Forlorn. Only a gray sky, Grass, trees, grass again, And all the air a cloud that drips, drips, All day. Lovely the lonely Bare trees and green grass-- Lovelier now the last hours of slow winter
Slowly pass.
John Freeman
William, Lucie, and James Herondale
Ok, I've finally read the first two books in the Last Hours series and I have some thoughts before book 3 is available from the library:
- Fuck Grace.
- Cassie needs an editor not afraid to tell her to tighten this shit
- The gracelet should have been resolved WAY before literally the end of book two; not only because we could actually see James and Cordelia being an actual couple and having to recover from the trauma and mistrust of the lost years, but the guilt and horror of everyone who loves James not noticing something wasn't right
- I don't blame Cordelia at all for noping out at the end; by that point she was fucking done and I support her. James should have immediately told her what he suspected after the 'not like Grace' comment - prior to that, none of it was actually James' fault but she doesn't know that and is done with being treated like shit.
- Literally anyone should be having even a modicum of a conversation and then trying to resolve the issues together; the problems are big enough that this miscommunication bullshit isn't needed. They could problem solve together even though they're still struggling with the impacts and not draw shit out for hundreds of more pages just to build false tension.
- The family tree branches are so intertwined in this universe I'm shocked there isn't hemophilia.
- Matthew deserves better than his storyline
- Seriously, fuck Grace. James literally lost multiple years under her spell and she had nothing but manipulative misdirects even outside of her mother's influence. Yes she had trauma as a child AND she then made her own bad choices that caused intentional hurt, including but not limited to when she took the bracelet the first time with no hints or comments outside of continuing to manipulate James and her treatment of Cordelia. She didn't have to spill everything (although goddamn, she could have and asked for help) while still stopping her abusive behavior but nope she doubled down.
- Lucie and Matthew should have been friends to lovers saving him from a love triangle, and her whole arc with Jesse (who first met her when he was an albeit dead teenager and she A CHILD) not done romantically. Also, again, have conversations goddamnit. If Grace who you know is shady AF is your only confidante, you might need a 'are we the baddies?' reflective moment.
Day 5 - Zürich 🇨🇭
I hate to say it but, Lucie is pissing me off. She is giving spoiled brat vibes and I don’t like it.
