Regrann from @softball_strong_ - Athletes =better players on the field. Ladders are a great tool to develop quickness, agility and movement skills. There's times when I think ladders are awesome, especially with large teams. You can easy incorporate foot work, with athletic work( think proper movement skills), change of skills into sprints and for more realistic work add a ball into the mix. What I don't like is when ladder work is done improperly; no instruction is given, players half ass it through the drill, and form is not corrected. Remember ladder drills must teach a skill. If your not capturing your players attention then their checked out, and that when chaos follows. Here's some ladder tips- -Always demonstrate the drill and explain what it's for. -players goal is to have correct movement form, not to get through the ladder as quickly as possible -hips should be low and arms moving -work multiplanar movements- linear, lateral, backwards, skipping, jumping. -try to have a ending to the ladder, meaning players sprint at the end or catch a ball... something that keeps their mind working. Ladders can be extremely valuable if you use it more as a skill than a drill.
