unprompted, but I’ve been thinking of the best way to describe the difference between a subjugglator and a laughsassin in my mind.

i think it’s best to see the different military prongs you can get into (threshecutioner, ruffianihilator, laughsassin, etc.) as, like, courses you might get into in a school. anyone can get into basically any one, but obviously you’re expected to have the sufficient skills required to participate in that course.

the subjugglators are a sort of brotherhood entirely separate to that. you can be a subjugglator and a ruffianihilator, or a subjugglator and a laughsassin (note that Gamzee clearly already is involved with subjugglator cultism, but still aspires to be a laughsassin). it just happens that a large amount of subjugglators are laughsassins, which leads to a large subjugglator influence in laughsassin ranks. as such, if you’re a laughsassin, you're more likely to be caught up in subjugglator affairs, and might be assigned to more service to subjugglators.

to bring in a comparison to sparta (can you tell i’ve been studying it at school), the military prongs are like messes. once you’re in a prong, you are part of that prong, and expected to participate in comradery with other members of that prong, as well as contribute to its upkeep (i.e. with contributions of foodstuffs and other resources, and participating in the prong’s actual military assignments). failing to do so would see you cast out of the prong, and essentially fucked as far as anyone else in the empire’s concerned.

here’s a thought; could the laughsassins be a replacement goldfish for the legislacerators?

we know in the current-night Alternian empire, legislacerators are “CONF1N3D TO STUFFY COURTBLOCKS 4RGU1NG C4S3S B3FOR3 H1S HONOR4BL3 TYR4NNY,” but that they used to be “D3PLOY3D THROUGHOUT TH3 G4L4XY TO 4PPR3H3ND CR1M1N4LS BY 4NY M34NS N3C3SS4RY.” it’s heavily implied that this work was done under the command of the subjugglators (the legislacerators are “the court’s”).

personally i reached the conclusion that use of the legislacerators was restricted by the sea dwellers because it gave the highblood council far too much reach in its control. but with a bunch of assassins at their control, it would appear the subjugglators have another group to fill their krypteia role anyway.

started watching miraculous ladybug! it's really cute and i'm enjoying it except for how i really hate alya?? idk it's just her character trope that annoys me but i loooove marinette and she and chat noir (i'm not super sold on her + adrien bc they like never interact and all i wanna do is tell her to get her shit together?? Ayla is a reporter, but while we tend to romanticize reporters like Lois Lane or Linda Park, the truth is that cutthroat lust for the story can be very obnoxious and doesn’t always get down to the truth. I like Ayla, but she a blogger-reporter in both the good way and the bad way.

I find all aspects of the Marrinette/Adrien love affair interesting. It’s true that she’s gaga over him without hardly talking to him, but that’s often how crushes work. He’s both her schoolboy crush and her celebrity (he IS a fashion model) crush all rolled into one.

Him barely knowing her at all in their civilian lives DOES feel a bit uneven, but I think it’s better than the production team’s original plan: to have him be a jerk as he rejects her repeated overtures. They ended up redoing Chat Noir’s entire personality as they proceeded with the series, making him way sweeter, and I think it was a good call. The extremity of Marrinette’s shyness may seem a bit contrived, but those freeze-ups do happen to relatively competent people in real life. Everybody has their weak spots.

I imagine that they won’t stay this way tho. There’s plenty of room for their dynamic to shift around.

god, i feel u. my first boyfriend, in freshman year, a mutual friend made us dance together and told me he liked me and wanted to ask me out and basically facilitated our relationship. they’ve been together for two years now. it’s so weird.

ahh i appreciate that! i have ~ideas~ and can probably get most of the way without issues but i just hate adjusting shit to suit tumblr's crappy graphic format bc everything looks grainy and atrocious once i upload it and idk what to do about it so if you have any tips about how to deal with that, i'd be happy to hear!!
