Day 3 of Hawaii: Napau Crater Trail to Mauna Ulu (12 miles roundtrip). Such diversity of environments on this hike: lave shields, ferns tree jungles, 'ohi'a lehua woodlands, and back to lava at Mauna Ulu. The coolest thing we saw was mounds of lava that had formed around trees before cooling very quickly leaving a perfect impression of the tree behind (see second and sixth photos).
