There were boundaries, rules that were put in place when they started this. They didn’t discuss it and they sure as hell didn't spend the night with each other. The line was clearly defined and that was fine.

But Eliot had seen that line begin to blur. Lingering in bed after they were exhausted. Eliot making a late dinner before Harry left. But that was fine. The next day they would all meet at the theater, arriving separately, and go through with the next job.

“Why don't you stay?”

This is the first time either of them have asked the other to stay and god does Eliot want to. This breaks the rules, but he doesn't move away from Harry. Harry's fingers are carding through Eliot's long hair and he can feel himself beginning to drift. It's late and he's exhausted deep in his bones.

Just this once, he tells himself.

“Yeah. I'll make breakfast in the morning.”

Just once. It'll be fine.

"That was quick thinking," Sophie praised as Harry held the door open for her. She brushed past him with her hands in her trouser pockets. "Ask for a table by the window or out on the patio." The goal was to be seen.

For a brief moment, Eliot is stunned. Because one second he was giving Harry a lecture about taking risks that Eliot was supposed to take. A risk that had led to bruises that mottled Harry's skin. They'd gotten to safety and Eliot had needed to make sure that Harry had known just how dangerous that had been. It's Eliot who is supposed to put his body in the line of fire.

He knows what he should do right now. Push Harry away and attempt to reestablish some line between them. But he thinks again of the fear he felt when he pulled Harry away from men who were much larger and far more vicious than he was. Instead, he's pulling Harry closer and deepening the kiss.

This isn't going to end well, a voice in the back of his head tells him, but he's ignoring it because God, he hasn't actually wanted something in a long damn time.
