59, 61, 78, please for those Clora Twins~!

59: What does your OC think of him/herself?

Walter has fairly low self-confidence. He’s not as strong as Juliet, and sometimes feels down on himself for that. He knows about Clive’s whole destroying London thing, and sometimes feels like he has to be a perfect child, or else it will reflect badly on his parents. He wants everyone to believe that they’re the perfect family, so he sometimes feels bad about himself for failing the image he’d like to keep up. However, his family is very supportive of him and loves him to bits, so he has a better self-image of himself than if he had grown up with circumstances like his parents did!

Juliet is quite self-confident, but also constantly wants to prove herself. She’s not as STEM-minded as her parents, and sometimes feels bad for that, since she really admires them both. Somehow she overlooks the fact that she’s better at acting/disguises than both of them in her comparisons to them, and is by far the most athletic person in her family. However, she’s generally very sure of herself, and loves being Walter’s Big (twin) Sister; it’s easy to feel strong and confident when you have your shy cute little brother to lead by the hand wherever you go.

61: What is the general impression your OC gives other people?

Walter: Shy little babey that needs to be protected. Also, it’s heartbreakingly easy to make him cry.

Juliet: Loud, exuberant, and always has a smile on her face; she’s the person to go to when you need a partner in crime.

78: What is your OC’s favorite time of day?

For both of them, probably bed time, because they get to read/cuddle with their parents then :) Flora works as a computer science professor at Gressenheller most days, and Clive works the occasional day at Spring + Cogg’s new clock shop, but they’re both almost always home in the evening, and they spend a lot of time putting the kids to bed, with a whole elaborate routine with tea, books, and some kind of fun game to burn off extra energy. On the few days that Mum and Dad aren’t home, Gareth is a good babysitter.

What was your first layton OC?

I'll tell you what mine was. (As much as I can remember)

It was around the time when only the first two games were in the west and we were waiting for unwound future.

I guess and created an OC. Her name was Rosa Layton! Yes very creative indeed. She was Layton's daughter who lived in New York with Layton's ex wife. (who was a spy)

Rosa was your typical street smart character who decided to start a little detective agency called "Crime Brats". She had the ability to see in the future. I also considered shipping her with Luke.

By the time the trailers for Last Specter came out she also became Descole's daughter. Through some complicated mess which resulted in me retconning her into becoming Layton's stepdaughter which she wasn't aware of.

At some point I decided that this OC was bad and steered away from Layton fanfiction for awhile.

(Perhaps I could revamp this character at some point)

Frances: 9: What does your OC’s bedroom look like? His/her living area?

I think that aesthetically, Frances’ room looks a lot like Luke’s does in Last Specter. I’m still trying to plan out my WIP Overwritten, but right now, I think that Clive does manage to save his parents, but their home is still destroyed, so they wind up moving in with the Tritons; Clive’s family doesn’t have much of their own, so they rely on the Tritons sharing their furniture and other things.

Apart from that, I think that Frances has a lot of displays of things like Lego, tinkertoys, and other construction-like toys that she’s built machines and models out of. She’s pretty neat and tidy, so they are always nicely displayed, and her room is very clean. She and Clive have a particular model that they work on together, and that’s displayed right in the middle of her desk.

Walter: 54: Does your OC think with his/her head or heart?

Walter thinks with his heart, 100%. He’s very sensitive and compassionate, almost to a fault; he’s so terrified of hurting people’s feelings or hurting other people. He will often avoid going places because he’s “happier at home,” but really, he’s letting his social anxiety get the better of him. When it comes to helping people, though, he’ll drop everything to help a person in need, even if he’s frightened.

Gareth: 56: What are some of your OC’s strengths?

Gareth is very good at organization and making plans. He’s very efficient: he rarely starts his plans from scratch, but is always observing what is going on around him, and taking little bits of what he likes to put into his own plans. While Gareth isn’t a people person, he’s also quite capable of making friends when he deems it useful, which isn’t often. Also, Gareth is a computer programmer, and is capable of pushing ‘80s computers far beyond what they should be able to do adfsjhkfdsjaf...

Juliet: 71: What is your OC’s favorite movie and/or TV show?

Juliet is a big weeb :’) She and Walter are born no matter what Clora ‘verse I’m writing, but in the world where she was born in the 1980s, she enjoys watching Astro Boy, Sailor Moon, and whatever other anime aired on 1980s-90s UK television. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is her favourite movie. You might not think it because of how hyperactive she is, but she’s a big romantic (although she doesn’t want Walter to see her cry during the emotional parts! Because he'd try to hug her and it would be distracting asdjkhadsf...) She also really likes thinking about the logistics behind all of the people being turned into furniture in the movie, and how their lives would be after they got turned back. Juliet has a big imagination, and likes dragging Walter and Gareth into acting out scenes from all of her favourite movies and shows.

Thank you so much! I chose Gareth because he's my baby boy at the moment, and my friend and I have been working really hard on developing him lately!

53: What is the health of your OC?

Physically, Gareth is mostly fine. He’s quite small (shorter than Flora!), and he’s not muscular at all, but that doesn’t affect his day to day life very much. Mentally though… Not Good. He functions well on a surface level, but a tragedy from his childhood affects almost everything he does. He uses his imagination as an escape, and lives in a sort of dream world he’s created for himself as much as he can, except when he’s working or making plans.

54: Does your OC think with his/her head or heart?

Gareth likes to think that he thinks with his head. And in some ways, he does: he’s a very good planner, and thinks carefully through the pros and cons of most of his decisions (emphasis on most!). But his heart is ruling all of his decisions. His master plans are all focused around what other people think of him, even though he pretends like he’s above caring. Also, his feelings for Clive and Flora, in particular, make him make careless errors in the stated goals of his plans (although maybe his stated goals are different than his subconscious goals).

Hello Gareth co-parent :D Thank you so much for asking!! I answered 17 earlier, but here are 11 and 12!! I'm not sure that I added anything new to what we've talked about already sdkhjasdfa but I hope this is entertaining!!

11: What is your OC’s relationship with his/her mother?

Gareth wasn’t sure about Flora when he first met her--he knew that Clive thought highly of her, but didn’t know much about her otherwise, as she lived a very private life before coming to work at the facility where Clive was being experimented on and where Gareth also works. He was fairly cold to her at first, as he is to most people. However, she very quickly won him over with how kind and caring she is.

Gareth was a bit tsundere with her at first, secretly doing nice things for her and hiding the truth about them behind his cold facade, but eventually dropped that and was just nice to her all the time adhjkasdf… It only took a few weeks for him to come to trust her enough to know that she should be involved in his plan to rescue Clive (and subconsciously, he wanted her involved because he now has two parent candidates!)

Overall, Gareth is very respectful to Flora and gets easily concerned about her, always looking out for her health and making sure that she’s taking care of herself. He’s very sweet to her, and gets really embarrassed when other people talk about how different he is around her compared to other people, and when he remembers how cold he was to her during those first few weeks.

Flora thinks he’s adorable, and especially since she was very lonely when she started her job, really enjoys spending time with him at work. Once she’s his mom, she fusses over him a lot, making sure that he doesn’t stay up too late and eats enough of her “delicious” food!! They love working on computer programs together as well, maybe even making some simple video games for Gareth’s siblings to play.

12: What is your OC’s relationship with his/her father?

Gareth’s relationship with Clive is… complicated. Clive was Gareth’s hero for about five years of Gareth’s young childhood, but fell from grace after young Gareth, worried about Clive’s wellbeing after the Future London incident, learned that the reason Clive had disappeared was because he was responsible for London’s destruction. Gareth’s admiration for Clive turned to resentment and anger: Clive was the most amazing person on earth, capable of so much, so how did he fall so far?

Gareth is pretty tsundere to Clive in most ways--he acts like he hates him, but puts ridiculous amounts of time and effort into plans that all revolve around him, and when he discovers that Clive is being used as a living science experiment, one of his biggest priorities is to rescue him.

Gareth still admires Clive deep down, and is always trying to emulate him and do better than him (perhaps, just maybe, in hopes of impressing him??), and truly doesn’t want to hurt Clive, although he does want his “revenge” on him. Seeing Clive in such a bad state after being experimented on is really hard for Gareth, and that’s one reason why he helps bring Flora to the facility, so she can help him when Gareth is unable to.

Once they’re truly father and son, they have a really close, if sometimes vitriolic, relationship. Gareth finds it easier to get along with Flora on a day to day basis, but only Clive understands how easy it is to spiral into obsession, and how easy it is to admire someone despite all of their faults. They spend a lot of late evenings talking over tea and playing chess together. They're both very grateful for the new life/second chance that they've been given with Flora, and like teaming up to do special little things for her to make her happy.

Thank you!! This is part of a story with my PL OC Gareth Faulkner. Normally he's adopted as an adult by Clive and Flora after they foil an evil plot he concocted, haha, but this is from an AU where Clive adopts Gareth as a child and has him as his son during Unwound Future.

...

“Smaug’s not actually going to destroy Lake-town, is he?” Gareth says quietly, rolling onto his back, blinking up toward Clive with heavy-lidded eyes. “Bilbo and the others are going to stop him, naturally.” But despite the cool confidence in his voice, there’s a look of worry in his eyes.

Clive bites his lip, casting a look back towards the dog eared book beside him. “I’m… not actually sure,” he says honestly. “I’ve never finished the book before.”

He’s never been able to.

Riddles in the Dark is as far as he can remember. He remembers how funny Mum’s voice was, as she squeaked out Bilbo’s desperate riddles, and how he and Dad giggled with equal parts of nervousness and humor as she voiced Gollum.

They never got any farther than that.

And for years, it hurt too much to read.

But he’s… he’s Gareth’s father now, as terrible a father as he may be. He has to carry on the tradition.

Clive’s parents had shared this book with him, so long ago, and he trusts in the memory of them. A story that they had loved so much would never end with such horrific destruction, would it?

Of course, he and Gareth’s first lives ended that way. If only there was a dragon to blame for the suffering they went through. Clive would gladly put his life on the line to slay it. But the government is a far more fearsome monster than any dragon could be, and it’s taken all of Clive’s cunning to get this far towards defeating it. That’s the only way he can make Gareth’s second life a happy one.

“Even if it does end badly, it’s just a story,” Clive says lightly. He reaches forward, rubbing a hand through his son’s dark hair. “You know I’d never let anything like that happen in real life.”

Gareth is quiet, something like reproach in his eyes. Somehow, it’s hard to look him in the eye.

“What?” asks Clive. He looks away, nervously running a hand through his own hair. “Did I say something wrong?”

“The fortress might do something like that,” Gareth says softly. “If you’re not careful with it.”
