Honestly I don't even know how I'm surprised at oaks anymore. Like every year I hope and I pray that I can feel the spirit during oaks talk and every year I'm disappointed

Growing up in a cult:

Hey all,

I've been silent for a bit because I've been processing some heavy shit it my life.

I finally accepted this week that I was raised in a cult.

I was raised mormon. I'm a queer nonbinary 28 year old struggling with severe suicidal ideation for the last... 19 years?

This week I finally admitted to myself and others that I was brainwashed.

I am not taking steps to leave. To deprogram.

It's part of why my life has gone all to hell recently. I was programmed to do nothing but care for others, even to my own detriment.

So here we are. I'm in therapy and finding my sense of self without the church and being told every single thing I am allowed to do.

It also means that for a while I will be single. I will be aggressively putting my interests and well being above all else in my life.

I'm sorry to those who tried to get me out before I was ready. It's really scary!
