For the bookish asks: 1, 5, 8, 12, 14, and 49?
1 What is your favorite book and/or book series of all time?
Well favorite series would probably be Harry Potter. I mean I’ve read those books...a lot. Favorite ones btw would be Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. As far as single favorite book that’s a tough one.So...yeah no idea on that one.
5 What book or book series would you like to see be made into a film/tv series?
I would really like the Chronicles of Prydain to get a second chance but as a tv series. We’d probably have to age up Taran and Eilonwy a tiny bit but I’d be ok with that. Honest the Black Cauldron film was rather disappointing and while I was happy to see Hen Wen’s oracular powers actually used the series needs a fresh start. Also if we could get Vanessa Williams as Achren I would really love that, thanks.
8. What is a book that you feel guilty for not reading?
Hmm...I don’t know. Probably the other Lord of the Rings books. I finished Fellowship and I got about halfway through Two Towers but I was just so bored. In my defense I was like twelve when I tried to read these books and it was such a trudge. Every tells me to read it now that I’m older but I don’t know. I feel guilty mostly because everyone goes on about those books and I just think “yeah the movies were pretty good”. The Hobbit is great so maybe these will be too. We’ll see.
12. What book do you passionately hate?
The Witches of Echo Park by Amber Benson. Yes, that Amber Benson. I read the comics that she co wrote for Buffy and they were really good. I had read her Calliope Reaper-Jones books with only the fifth one,How to be Death, being the best and actually having a decent plot. Those books were...ok? They weren’t unreadable but there were a lot of issues to say the least. The Witches of Echo Park is a trainwreck from start to finish. There’s hardly any magic in this book about witches, the main character is unmotivated and incredibly oblivious that I was constantly wondering why we were following her around, there’s a lot of “Neo-Wicca Bullshit” that is just...seriously? seriously we’re going with that? And finally the hipster barista love interest had one of the worst lines I have ever read. “I’m saying I want to be your friend, not just fuck you!”. Wow...he sounds a like a keeper. Oh btw he says this line at the main character’s grandmother’s funeral. Just thought you should know.
14. What book gives you happy memories?
The Phantom Tollbooth. I got this for my birthday one year from my loving husband who was shocked that I had never read it before. There’s a lot of moments that are really cute and it immediately makes me think of him whenever I see it.
49. What book has inspired you?
I would have to say either Hero by Perry Moore or The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Both of these books inspired me in different ways but something they both did was made me feel like I belonged. Charlie from Perks is so incredibly relatable and I felt a lot like him when I was a freshman in high school. Thom from Hero is coming to terms with his sexuality, and new found superpowers, worries constantly how his father is going to react to that information, and is trying to be taken seriously as a hero. I love both of these books very much and if I could write something like either one of those stories and get someone to feel how I felt then that’d be pretty amazing.
