sometime in 2017 someone posted audio and screenshots that seemed to show a discord group chat in which a komaeda kin cut off his own finger (because that’s something the dr character did apparently) and then threw up and was rushed to the hospital. everybody on tumblr and twitter freaked the fuck out for about 4 hours before it was revealed to be a prank. this is the origin of dangan ronpa’s reputation for attracting the most unhinged kinnies imaginable AND komaeda’s status as a standalone meme.
