"Which would be understandable-- if I were Kelvy." Close in
age and a friendship that could rival their parents' at times,
it really wasn't a surprise when Derry would hear from her
little sister about Trace stopping by to shoot the shit with her.
With Derry, though?
Well, they weren't unfriendly with each other. Trace was
right about that, they were practically family. Even so, that
distance in age was still prominent. Derry had been working
to get into college by the time Trace became a real,
sentient little person, and even then they so rarely saw
each other until he was older.
But none of that really answered the question of why he
was there. She wondered what part of it it was, if any of
the things happening within her family's lives had anything
to do with it at all.
"Somehow I doubt you're here to watch over Immy or
Noble for Vin and me. So, which is it, Trace? Dad's new
album? The things going on with my job, or what?" Or
maybe there was something to do with Kelvy? She
really didn't have the faintest idea of what he could've
wanted. A casual visit really could've been the answer,
but it just didn't feel right from Trace.
