Many teachers love lecturing. We love showing how much we know. We love being in control and the center of attention. We love seeing how much content we can pack into a lecture, efficiently covering everything our students need to know. Students love for us to do the work for them, and tell them what they need to know. If only it worked. But I have become convinced that students don’t learn very much if all we do is lecture.

I believe teachers are doing too many learning tasks for students. We ask the questions. We offer the examples. On any given day, in most classes teachers work harder than students.
