Pixie had ( little bit older ) brother was very very smart like genius level of smart . Brother was use pictures picture book and flash cards teach Pixie words . It was so very difficult and huge effort from brother and Pixie and long long time but Pixie learn !

Pixie still struggle , not can spell , and often need look up word dictionary thesaurus to understand . Pixie like read on tablet because can highlight each word Pixie not understand and get exactly what word means . Is maybe also why Pixie use symbol based AAC , Pixie not can not capable understand how letters make words Pixie get so confused .

Pixie have AAC device speak every word . with sound volume Up on AAC device . so Pixie listen to each word make sure Pixie use right symbol for what Pixie try communicate .

Read is skill what Pixie lose too quickly if not practice every day . That Part of why Pixie use tumblr , to keep practice .

We’re all going to have to start being a lot more compassionate and a lot less ableist towards reading if we’re going to actually address the growing problem of kids in school who weren’t really taught to read. Lotta people talk about how there’s no literacy anymore as if it’s the kids’ fault. It’s not. And we need to start addressing it from a place of kindness, not ridicule.

This Is Zach - An -ad Reader

As a kindergarten educator, I often read little stories with groups of students. The stories typically contain “sight words” (a, and, at, I…and so on), words that are easy for the children to sound out, and they often contain words with many of the same ending sounds. For example -at, -an, etc., and as I will show here, -ad. So, enjoy this lovely little story (and read it 20+ times in a row to get the full kindergarten experience).

This is Zach.

Zach is a lad. (Pause to give a little vocabulary lesson for the word lad)

Zach is sad.

Zach is mad.

Zach is bad.

Bad Zach!

i think i found the cutest idea to help littles feel small and like their headspace age a little easier when their struggles.

Have a language you want to learn? try buying baby books and kids books of that language, watch youtube videos of people reading it in one language and then going back and explaining what it says in english!

For example : 📙

but it doesn’t have to just be books, you can watch movies and cartoons in that language too, it’ll make you feel like a real little kid who doesn’t quite understand…but that’s okay, cause your learning and trying your best <3

i don’t know, i just thought it was super cute and would be a fun way to help some littles learn and be able to regress at the same time.

you could also do activities and worksheets in those languages too, word searches, easy math, whatever you’d like!
