A Story Book Romance In The Real World (leatherboundpirate)
Jillian always wanted to be the princess in a fairy tale. She wanted to feel like the most beautiful girl in the room. But honestly, she saw herself as ordinary. Even though she was very beautiful no one ever seemed to look at her like she was awe inspiring. To everyone in town, both man and woman, she was just Jillian The Bartender.
The thought left Jillian's mind as she sat aside a glass she had been cleaning and looked around. Jillian worked at the only bar in town, The Rabbit Hole. She was also the only woman who worked there which meant often people came in to check her out or flirt with her. It was always part of her job to flirt but she never really enjoyed it because everyone there only seemed to see her as a piece of meat.
She picked up another glass and heard the clacking of pool balls off to the side as well as music suddenly being played on the jukebox. She smiled at the song, one of her favorites, and swayed her hips. She danced subtly behind the bar as she cleaned glasses and poured drinks, mouthing the words to the song as she went along. Hopefully, just maybe, today would be a different day.

Finally, it was her last first day of school ever. Emma could not have been more thrilled. She'd considered taking the easy way out and just dropping out of school and seemingly off the face of the earth as well, but she knew if she was going to have any sort of tolerable future, she'd have to at least graduate from high school. So here she was, looking none to happy to be there, even if she was happy about it being senior year. At least it was a new school where she didn't know anyone and wouldn't have to make friends since everyone already had their established groups. That made it easier. She'd do her work, and it would go fast. Hopefully.
Of course, it wouldn't be a day in the life of Emma Swan if something didn't go wrong right away. After finding her locker, she'd mulled around the halls a bit, waiting for the crowd in front of it to dissipate, and by the time it had, she was already almost late for first period. In her attempt to wrench her locker open, she found that it was stuck, and no matter what she did, she couldn't get it to open. Frustrated, she kicked it with her boot just as the first bell rang.

She woke up almost with a start, stiffening in her bed. There was a warm body besides her own, too big to belong to Henry. Lifting her head, hazel hues searched the man's face--and then she remembered what had happened. Though Emma still did not understand the nonsense he was spewing about her parents and an Enchanted Forest, she had accepted him into her home because he caught her at a bad time.
An unwanted face had found her, reduced her into a vulnerable mess she would later deny if he dared to bring it up. She had asked a friend of hers to pick up Henry and had him stay over their house for the night because all she wanted to do was be alone. However, when she came angrily stumbling up her stairs, she had found him at her door-step--again.
No matter how many times she told him to screw off or she would call the cops, he remained resilient, demanding what was wrong. She pushed and shoved at him, but he was stronger. Though he could have forced himself at that point into his home, he didn't. And maybe it was because she saw his b a s t a r d ' s face, but she was [ weak ] and [ vulnerable ].
The next thing she knew, she was crying into his arms--something she had never done in a very long time: cried in front of someone and cried in the arms of a stranger. She must be really losing it, but the rest of the day was spent telling him about some of her days while in the foster care.
For the first time in a long time, she felt taken cared of. Though he did not have to, he cooked her dinner and they just talked about mundane things--about fairy tails, oddly enough. And when she got tired, she actually invited him into her bed because for reasons beyond her own comprehension, she felt safe and secure with him around. She ended up falling asleep in his arms, spooned and cuddled against him.
Now that she was fully awake, the day before coming to mind, she smiled quietly to herself. Turning her face in, she pressed her nose into the warmth of his arm, which was sued as a make-shift pillow, before she kissed the inside of his elbow--
-- a silent ' thank you ' if you must.
