So I’m in a debate with someone about the war.
This was a question that was brought up:
if Israel are trying to get to Hamas, why are they bombing the West Bank, South Lebanon and the Egypt crossing? The Hamas isn't located there.
I’m actually not fully educated in this part! Some info with sources would be appreciated!
Hamas is in the West Bank. Along with other terror groups that are being opportunistic in this time. Their presence isn't as big and they aren't the actual government of the West Bank (Fatah/PLO/Mahmoud Abbas is), unlike Gaza Strip where Hamas is the government and has totalitarian control.
Hezbollah, like Hamas, is an Iranian funded terror group that is part of Iran's long proxy war against Israel.
They have also been shooting rockets at Israel since this all started (indeed much of the area around that border is under evacuation at the moment on the Israeli side) but they haven't fully entered the war. Hamas would like them to do so as this would open another front and divert some of Israel's attention away from Gaza. Hezbollah doesn't want to because they don't want Beirut to look like Gaza currently looks like, and good on them for thinking at least that much of their fellow countrymen.
Also those US carriers in the Mediterranean are there in case other fronts in this war really open up and that wouldn't be good news for Hezbollah. So their leader is just making all sorts of big angry speeches but just shooting rockets off here and there to which Israel is responding in kind hitting Hezbollah positions.
Hamas can absolutely be at the Rafah crossing and even trying to use Rafah to smuggle people, fuel, and/or weapons or hiding amongst civilians there. Rafah is the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip (out of 3). Hamas is the totalitarian government of the entire strip and that includes Rafah and the crossing there with Egypt that is currently being used for humanitarian purposes. Right now the crossing is open for aid trucks and hasn't been struck by anything while aid has been coming through to my knowledge.
Most of their power is thought to be concentrated in the north, particularly Gaza City, which is the current target of the ground war. But no place in Gaza is really free of Hamas.
