Whatever happened to the likely La's?

After Christmas, the band played again at Oasis' Brighton gig. After failing to turn up for the soundcheck Mavers had demanded, the band shambled into the huge and largely empty venue to stagger through a transparently under-rehearsed half-hour of flat renditions and cock-ups. About two songs in, Lee stopped playing, turned round to his band and shouted, "So I'm doing the backing vocals as well, am I?"

Bob Andrews también produjo "There She Goes" de The La´s en su versión single inicial, excelente canción merseybyrd que puede considerarse como una de las fundacionales del posterior Britpop.

El sencillo fue editado sin pena ni gloria en 1988, no pasó nada con él. El 2 de enero de 1989 la canción volvió a ser lanzada y alcanzó un tímido nº 59 en listas UK. El 22 de octubre de 1990 fue remezclada por Steve Lillywhite para su inclusión en el álbum debut de la banda de Liverpool y consiguió alzarse hasta el puesto 13.

Hace unos años Noel Gallagher escogió "There She Goes" como su canción favorita de la década de los 90. Le gustaba tanto el grupo de Lee Mavers que en algún momento llegó a afirmar que Oasis "querían finalizar lo que La´s habían iniciado".
