It's is the 3rd track from her first album, Vol.1, which was released in late 1995. It is one of her representative songs.
I really love Sora's ballads, and her emotional and unique voice. She sings in such a way that you can feel the true emotion of the ballads. Her voice is almost like no other.
This is surprisingly not the first song I have listened to by her, but it is from the same album, I just can't remember the English title.
This song was also composed by Kim Hyunchul, who is also one of my favorite singers of the X Generation!
'I'm Happy', is another sad ballad. It seems that interprets the regret of loving someone, and not being able to let go of your love for them, clinging onto the happy memories that remain.
It is a bit heartbreaking...
Lee Sora's style really reminds of Lee Seunghwan's way of ballads. They both have unique voices that expresses the feeling of various emotions while singing with similar style of ballad themes.
She also looks soo beautiful in this music video. I loved her red pixie during this era.... As well as her style and makeup that really complimented her. She is just beautiful!
Sora is one of my favorite ballad singers. She is just so talented.
이소라 (Lee Sora) - 신청곡 (Song Request) feat. SUGA [vocab&translation]
➼ 창밖 - outside of the window
➼ 비가 오다 - to rain
➼ 꼭 - for sure
➼ 떠오르다 - to recollect, remember
➼ 잠이 오다 - to be sleepy, falling asleep (lit. for sleep to come)
➼ 침묵 - silence
➼ 쓸쓸하다 - to be lonesome
➼ 심장 소리 - the sound of one’s heart
➼ 미치다 - to be crazy
It’s raining outside again, at times like these I always think of you
I can’t fall asleep
This silence in my room and my lonesome heartbeat is driving me crazy
So I turn up my radio
And on the radio
➼ 들리다 - to hear
➼ 사연 - story
So I turn up my radio, I can hear a voice from somewhere
And on the radio, that sad story seems so alike to mine
Hey DJ play me a song to make me smile
Hey DJ play me a song to make me cry
➼ 울적하다 - to be gloomy
➼ 대신 - instead
➼ 잊다 - to forget
➼ 노래 - song
➼ 답답하다 - to be stuffy, suffocated
Hey DJ, play me a song to make me smile
On a night when I’m feeling gloomy, a song to smile for me
A song to make me forget him
Hey DJ, play me a song to make me cry
On a night when I feel suffocated, a song to cry for of me
A song to make me forget him
➼ 치열하다 - to be intense
➼ 위로하다 - to comfort, console
➼ 어둠 - darkness
➼ 잠들다 - to fall asleep
➼ 수백 번 - hundreds of times
➼ 토해내다 - to exhale
➼ 귀퉁이 - a corner
➼ 조각 - a piece
➼ 감정 - emotions
➼ 벗 - friend, companion
Tonight, even the dark that consoles the intense day fell asleep
You exhale me hundreds of times because you’re hurt
I am a corner, a piece of your life
A friend of your emotions, sometimes a familia
➼ 쉬다 - to rest
➼ 외로움 - loneliness
➼ 파묻히다 - to be burried in sth
➼ 취하다 - to be drunk
➼ 게워내다 - to throw up everything
➼ 비로소 - at last
➼ 음악 - music
When you want to take a rest for a while
When you feel burried in loneliness even when you’re not alone
When you get drunk on memories and throw someone up again
At last, then, I became your music
➼ 끝 / 처음 - end / first
➼ 행복 - happiness
➼ 넋 - soul
➼ 자장가 - lullaby
➼ 소음 - noise
Yeah, to someone I am spring, to someone I am winter
To someone I am the end, to someone I am the first
To someone I am happiness, to someone I am a soul
To someone I am a lullaby and sometimes a noise
➼ 기억하다 - to remember
➼ 부디 - please, I pray
➼ 가끔 - from time to time
➼ 기대다 - to rely on
I will be together with you, on your birth and your end
I wish you remember that we’re together wherever you are
I will console your life anytime so I wish you would lean on me sometimes
Radio narration from the MV:
➼ 창가에 앉다 - to sit by the window
➼ 멍하니 - blankly, absent-mindedly
➼ 하염없이 - endlessly
➼ 빗소리 - the sound of falling rain
➼ 문득 - suddenly
➼ 이름 - name
➼ 인생 - life
➼ 얼굴 - face
“It’s raining.
Is she absent-mindedly sitting by the window and listening to the rain today as well?
I miss her/him everytime it rains, it’s bad.” is what we received.
People say that it’s a fine life when you suddenly think about someone’s name when it rains.
Who are you thinking of?
Whose face are you imagining?
➼ 어쩔 수 없다 - it can’t be helped
It’s raining again outside, at times like these I always think of you
I can’t fall asleep
It seems I can’t help it
