Disclaimer: I’m gonna talk a lot of shit about Gen 7 and 8 characters but this is purely about how they act in canon, every mun has their own interpretation of the characters that makes them more interesting and fleshed-out

As excited as I am for Pokémon Legends, I’m already expecting it to be a very disappointing game because it’s gonna be mostly focused on lore and Game Freak’s been HORRIBLE with that lately

Recent games made it clear that their biggest priority at the moment is delivering hype rather than actually making a consistent story, like how USUM messed up several well-liked plot points, like Lusamine as a villain, Lillie as the deuteragonist and Anabel as a faller, while also underdeveloping new ones like the Ultra Recon Squad, just to shoehorn boss fights against Necrozma/Giovanni and add fanservice scenes for Gladion that were basically just retreading old ground, and how most of SwSh’s plot points can be reduced to sidelining previous fan-favorites and repeating plot points that have been done several times over but acting like it’s better just because it’s new, such as Piers being made as a response to Guzma’s popularity to the point where the plot contradicts itself several times over about whether or not he’s supposed to be antagonistic, Marnie being a response to the demand for female rivals that are actually competitive but then falling back into the same old stereotypes because she also needs to be the regional waifu, Hop’s role as the supposedly most developed rival just being a retread of Bianca and Cheren, Bede’s league dialogue being hilariously contradictory, Bea being the regional Maylene and confirming it in the anime by upstaging the previous regional Maylene and the thought process behind Leon being clearly “Lance and Cynthia are popular for being badass champions so we’ll make this champion the most popular by claiming that he’s stronger than them”

Also since it’s a Sinnoh game let’s not forget that recent gen 4 references have been usually misleading, such as 2 out of the 3 Generations episodes clearly having been written using fanon takes on the characters rather than what actually happens in the games (like seriously Cyrus wanting to stay in the Distortion World when in Platinum he canonically hates it there), and the only one that’s not outright wrong is the Old Chateau episode that has no lore and is just meant to be spooky, while in USUM Cyrus randomly gets Charon’s backstory and in general acts as the most sympathetic Rainbow Rocket member, which is more based on his fanon characterization as sad hermit man than his actual personality

So long story short I hope that this game will be good but I’m also expecting it to be full of plot holes because Game Freak’s current definition of a good story is going through a checklist of traits that have been popular before
