Breaking news! Vindex Academy is on lockdown. The resident school for superheroes, agents, and engineers went on automatic shutdown after a storm knocked out their power, forcing the student body to migrate to the cafeteria, professors and engineers scrambling around the edifice in search of a way to reactivate the power and override the locking mechanisms.
How such an incident managed to take place at this prestige school for heroes? I was wondering the exact, same thing. Which is why I took it upon myself to visit Vindex and meet with the directors there.
Nick Fury and Amanda Waller had no comment on the occurrence, offering a simple “we have the situation contained,” before leaving me there with more questions than answers. I decided to survey the student body to find out more.
“It was terrifying, being trapped in the cafeteria for days on end. The agents were all away on a training mission, and the supers’ abilities were repressed from power dampeners. It was left to the few engineers … The rest of us were useless, everything out of our control,” said one particularly distressed student on the matter.
It seems as though Vindex has been having some problems of their own, lately. First, a teacher sending his class to Wyoming, abandoned in the wilderness with nothing but a change of clothes, a tarp, and rope to survive. And now? A storm, capable of setting the entire campus on lockdown, taking days to override the system.
It seems as though nothing can get into the school. Or out. What are you hiding, Vindex? It’s about time you bring your secrets into the light.
“Well -- You almost all look like fucking train wrecks. I mean come on, we’re on a fucking camping trip. I’ve gone longer without eating, and you’re all running around like pissy babies complaining about what the fuck ever. Seriously? You’re supposed to be agents.” A snort. “Pathetic. Ward was right.” A shrug of the shoulders. “On the bright side, nobody died. Yet.”
There’s smoke from the east. With the smoke comes moving animals, and, during the night teams 3a and 3b are raided—– by an angry disturbed bear and two young cubs.
[OOC: Your characters can react to this event any way within reason. So. Like. No Death. And no murdering of the bears unless it’s a team effort. But feel free to panic like hell.]
Bears. Why the fuck did it have to be bears? And it’s at this point that Alex wishes he had his bow and arrow. Stupid SHIELD... He could always throw a rock but he didn’t want to hurt the bear and agitate it more anyway... Alex figured that he just should run for his life at the point and hopefully since he was going to run away screaming, his team mates would not judge him.
“IT’S A BEAR! IT’S NOW EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!” He shrieked as he ran away with the tarp and ran only a few metres or so forward. His agent side couldn’t leave his team mates alone. “I don’t know about you, but I have no interest in being bear food.” He gestured the angry bear to his teammates.
Jax woke up to find smoke was all around him. Taking in a deep breath, he found that he still wasn’t effected by smoke in general- he could breathe it. And for a moment, for a split second Jax lift his hand and tried to control it.
“Fuck-” He hissed out the swear when he found that he was just waving his hand in the smoke expecting something to happen. He wasn’t able to grab control of any of the smoke around him. Breathing it- that must be physical. It was just his lungs able to handle the smoke from naturally taking it in his lungs. Of course...
He couldn’t see past it. Where was it coming from? Where was the fire? “Hello!?” He called out. “Jami-” Jamie’s not here, calm down. He’s safe. Back at home- hopefully. “Jason? B!?” He shouted. He felt useless unable to manipulate his own element. He backed up, bumping into someone and jumping at the feeling of someone standing behind him. “Are you alright?” He asked them.
The thunderstorm yesterday caused lightning. Towards the end of the rain one tree was struck, catching it on fire. The fire started spreading at some point during the night and now has started to encroach on the campsites of Teams 5a and 5b. [OOC: Your characters can react to this event any way within reason. So. Like. No Death. But feel free to get burned or some smoke problems or whatever.]
Kara had been pacing back and fourth through the forest, tangling her fingers through her hair. This was the worst timing for her to be taken into the wilderness with no way of leaving. She closed her eyes for a few seconds, listening to the sounds around her, but they were all jumbled. She couldn't make anything out, and the reason was clasped tightly around her wrist. It had a red glow that copied the effects of the red sun on Krypton. They essentially made her human. “I need to get to Ry~” She mumbled to herself as she started to walk, but she was forced to stay here... Right after Ry died right in front of her. The rushing of Doctors and Nurses still echoing through her head... The flat line of his heart monitor still slicing through her heart.
He didn’t know what the worst part of this was. He’d have nothing to drown out the nightmares for the next week- that was pretty bad because he had gotten into the habit of drinking himself to sleep. Or that it was basically camping with no supplies, no smoke, no nothing.
He was dressed in Jason’s shirt which was not really his size and school issued sweat pants since he woke up on the plane in nothing but this shirt and his boxers. He had to get changed on the plane ride to the wilderness. Jax sat on a rock, trying to sharpen one into a blade with another rock. When someone walked over. “I’m thinking about going hunting later,” He told them. “We do need to eat.”
