Dreyfus Night in Paris is a live album by bassist Marcus Miller, pianist Michel Petrucciani, guitarist Biréli Lagrène, drummer Lenny White, and saxophonist Kenny Garrett. It was recorded on July 7, 1994 at the Palais De Sports (Dôme de Paris) in Paris by Francis Dreyfus for the label Dreyfus Jazz, released on January 20, 2004.

Reception.

The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album 4 stars stating “Although the three selections are each quite extended, they hold one’s interest throughout. Excellent music.” JazzTimes’s Bill Milkowski wrote that “this live outing features an all-star ensemble stretching out on just three songs”, adding that “While Petrucciani had previously played with drummer White…, the pianist had never before played with either Lagrene, Miller or Garrett, which makes this 10-year-old document all the more rare.”

Corea, Clarke & White – Forever

Forever is a double CD album of live acoustic recordings recorded in California, Tokyo and Seattle in 2009 by the Return to Forever pianist Chick Corea, bass player Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White and studio rehearsals with guests Jean-Luc Ponty, Bill Connors and Chaka Khan. It was released on the Concord label in 2011.

“An in-demand drummer of jazz’s sixth wave, Lenny White cut his teeth with Jackie McLean before hooking up with Miles Davis in 1970 and inventing the future of the genre. Credits on Davis’s Bitches Brew, Santana’s Caravanserai, and Chick Corea’s Where Have I Known You Before led to a deal with Nemporer Records in 1975, where White cut two monuments of progressive jazz: Venutian Summer and Big City.

Issued in 1975, Venusian Summer deceives as a spaced-out funk LP for the first eight minutes, replete with slap bass, wandering clavinet, ARP solos, freaked out guitar noodling, and chunky drum breaks. In the center is the two part “Venusian Summer Suite,” a moody drone that cuts open a hidden vein of street classical, with an endless Hubert Laws flute solo to boot.
