« Given that Hollywood is often caricatured as a hotbed of liberalism, it’s surprising that Republicans seem so much better than Democrats at the showbiz side of politics. »
— Author and podcaster Leon Neyfakh in an op-ed at the New York Times last May.
While I'm not 100% on board with the points Leon's essay, he does have a number of excellent points.
When Democrats win presidential elections, it's usually with candidates who are either entertaining (in some way) or rather atypical for politicians. Yet we aren't learning from that pattern.
Perhaps we should look for potential candidates who are entertaining but also good at politics rather than the other way around.
In a fantasy presidential election where Matthew McConaughey ran as a Democrat, he would wipe the floor with pseudo-hillbilly J.D. Vance.
BTW: Leon Neyfakh is very cool. It's not about politics, but read his book The Next Next Level.
