Do you have recommendations for games with interesting color schemes? Genre and gameplay is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, I just wanna go full monkey brain "heehoo pretty"
Games that feature notable use of colour, eh? Sure, I’ve got a few – well, more than a few! – in mind. I don’t know where your tastes lie, so I’m going to try and hit a fair spectrum: some pastels and some neons, some garish and some subdued. Maybe I’ll hit the exact thing you’re looking for by dumb luck!
Ascendance - Casual first-person parkour – basically a more colourful version of Refunct.
Beyond Eyes - A short walking sim about a blind girl and her cat. Plays super slow.
Celeste - A hard-has-balls precision puzzle platformer (seriously, I died like 16 000 times on my first 100% clear) with beautiful pixel art.
cityglitch - Basically the vapourwave version of a chess puzzler. Maybe play with the filters a bit – the default settings are hard on the eyes!
GRIS - A casual puzzle platformer of the perennial “it’s indie so it’s about depression” genre. Very nice hand-drawn visuals.
Elsinore - A time-looping mystery game where you play as Ophelia from Hamlet, trying to find the ending where nobody dies
Even the Ocean - A momentum-based puzzle platformer with visual novel interludes.
Hexologic - A math-based logic puzzler that starts out easy and becomes very much not so.
The Gardens Between - Anther time manipulation game, though this one focuses on abstract puzzles rather than narrative shenanigans.
Neo Cab - A low-key cyberpunk VN self-described as an emotional survival sim. Very purple.
Okami - A port of a PS2 game where the graphics are designed to look like a living ink-brush painting.
OneShot - A meta mindfuck RPG that does some amazing things with lighting effects considering its low resolution.
Pyre - Dante’s Divine Comedy meets Space Jam. Yes, I’m being 100% literal there.
Panoramical - A short abstract walking sim whose main claim to fame is that it was designed by a DJ.
TIMEframe - A walking sim that does some interesting things with a very limited colour palette. Good for play in short bursts.
Sayonara Wild Hearts - A rhymhm game that lifts its colour scheme from the bisexual pride flag, for reasons that will quickly be apparent!
Super Crush KO - A very 90s side-scrolling brawler whose protagonist is definitely not Sailor Jupiter.
Transistor - Tactical hack-and-slash with one of the few implementations of pausable real-time I can stand. Nice film noir atmosphere.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles - A walking sim with light farming RPG elements. Just generally very pretty.
The Window Box - A bottle-episode visual novel about relationship drama. Make sure to check the content warnings!
