love les mis!! i read it summer '22 while recovering from surgery and i really loved it. i read the slightly abridged translation and i think i would one day like to read the full unabridged translation.

i am not a big fan of the musical but i love the song Master of the House, and was shocked to find that monsieur and madame thénardier are absolutely not comic relief characters in the book

my favorite character (very predictably) is javert

i still have no idea where the fanon of javert having waist-length anime girl hair came from but i love it... feeling constantly well fed

actually valjean trying to just not say anything until this insane person tires himself out and leaves his office is one of the funnier parts of that scene as well bc javert, world's greatest detective, is like oh monsieur la mer is graciously allowing me to innumerate every last detail of my failures, perhaps if all goes well he will sentence me to death or hard labor

so telling when "who is the best amis?" polls leave out montparnasse, the only good amis

i sort all my favorite characters into bins and alicent and javert are all alone in the same one. i don't think they're having a very good time nor do i think they agree with their catalog assignment.
