So Lesper, what kind of harpy are you?
Hm. Not really anyone’s fucking business, but I’m originally from the Artimid flock. I look as though I am from the Corvid flock, I know. Artimids tend to be black and white.
Soon after my birth, the few feathers I had that were white like the rest of my families were shed and only black ones have grown in their place. One of the many reasons my supposed family banished me.
That and I disagreed with their shitty fucking behaviour.
I mention that, not to invite more questions, but so you don’t think I want any sympathy for being banished by a pack of complete c**ts
So Lesper, do you have a crush on Bok?
No.
If I feel some way about someone they know about it. The ability to always be able to fly away instils that in you.
I would go as far as to call him a friend. We look out for each other. Within reasons. That’s part of the deal.
The lack of pretension in our friendship is why it endures.

Ignorance, chaos and evil are the weapons of the demon Mahisha, a buffalo that can be transformed into a man, an elephant or whatever his anger commands. The destruction of its force is stirred in whirls of screams. Mahisha enters our most impure obsessions, in the denial of knowing who we are, in the self-destruction of our faults, raises us with the masses of his foul song, throws us into…

Lesper, what's your favorite memory of all time?
Hm.
When I was maybe twelve or thirteen, there was increasing pressure from my clan, Artimid, to begin taking part in the hunts, at that age a harpy is almost fully grown and can usually be expected to provide meat for the rest of the clan. It is at that age that we are also expected to start singing and dancing and…mating with travellers so that our eggs are fertile and that more hapries can be born.
I had no interest in such things. Still don’t.
It’s not just the act itself. Or the inherent violence. That’s just a fact of life.
But I love music. I love singing.
Singing, music and dancing are part of a harpies survival. It’s how we hypnotise our prey. To me, it’s not right to use music that way. Music shouldn’t be used to hurt. Music shouldn’t be used to kill. I don’t care if people hurt or kill eachother, but I wont let music be a part of it.
My clan noticed my apprehension.
In harpy culture. At least, in clan Artimid, if a harpy wont hunt or mate, the others surround her, rip her feathers out, then throw it from a cliff. Even if they survive…the goblins will find them.
So I ran. Flew.
I flew across the ocean. I rested on galleons when I could. Stole food. I flew as far from them as I could. I found myself still on the mainlands. Not really built for migration. I was exhausted. I had nobody.
In spite of everything. Everything they had done. Everything they were going to do. I missed my clan. I had no one to sing with. I missed the music. I perched at the top of a tall tree.
I sang to myself. One of the upbeat songs we would sing before a feast. I had resolved myself that I would never harmonise again. Sad as I was, I sang with all my heart.
Before I knew it, I had an echo. Someone was my second. I had a harmony. I even had musical backing. An ork? An elf? A boy. A terrestrial. Was singing with me. He wasn’t afraid. He was smiling. He wanted to sing with me.
As it turns out, he wanted to be my friend. Simple as that.
I cling to that, sometimes.
Hey Lesper. Man sue you're too busy working with Bok to do so yourself, but can you think of any good places to go looking to hire a harpy to be a scout for a caravan? I hear eyes in the sky are pretty great for avoiding trouble.
I’d not try to find a helpful scout anywhere on the mainlands, or at least nowhere near Kamkia or Dharuk. Clan Corvid, and my own clan, Artimid are pretty much the only game in town and they have not demonstrated a willingness to help people. Except out of their pants and off their mortal coil, I mean.
There are probably some reasonable harpies in other directions, particularly to the north, where things get more tropical.I understand that in the Northern archipelagos, especially around Zorzam and Waktuwok, there are harpies that, as long as you keep them fed - are pretty easy going. Ones with blue skin and multicoloured feathers.I’m sure I could put in a good word for you.
For a considerable finders fee.
