Dr Colton, Do people who are recipients of juvinats suffer greater dental needs as they advance past the natural human life span? Do juvinats treatments recondition teeth? Does Raege still have all hers? I’d imagine that even if she has good oral hygiene that she’s have lost a few in battles by now.
Happily, the effects of Juvenats go beyond the superficial. It keeps bones strong, prolongs good eyesight, even maintains a measure of brain function.
Granted, there are levels of juvenats, but I suspect the commissar is being put on fairly high level ones. Not as often as I would have thought, either.
Levels of Juvenats?
Yeah.
Like, the Commissar of course looks...maybe 40′s when she’s nearing a century, but she still gets sore, she’s still greying and she’s a pretty..weirdly oddly tough slow ageing person to begin with.
I’ve seen really high up people like inquisitors and governors use these insane high end juvenats that revert them almost back to puberty with no evidence of tampering. No greys. No sore joints. It’s like they’ve basically reversed time.
The science behind that is beyond me. And a bit suspect I think.
It sounds too fantastic to be true.
Regarding dental care, anytime the Commissar loses a tooth in combat fucking Cuddles just grows it back for her.

Commissar Raege, Have you considered seeking out a melee trainer for Boone if you’re not a good match for her proclivities in that regard? There has to be someone in the Edges with some sweet kicks.
A few people came forward actually.
Redding, being noble borne himself, was familiar with a handful of more elaborate almost dance-like martial arts. They are largely about flowing movement and dodging, where the actual attacks don’t land that often but when they do they just about end the fight. Whether she has the discipline to train properly remains to be seen, but I can see it working with her particular skill set.
The only other person I’ve seen use a kick based martial art is Ohmi.
Stonewall, launching off a past question, have you chosen any particular parts to keep organic or simply whichever are the most cheap or practical to replace? Is that remaining biological but just some bits of connecting tissue here and there left in the brain and torso or like...one full thigh or the like?
Heart remains. Sentimental reasons.
Previous statement false.
Chance of subversion of listeners expectations based on median estimate : 82.5%Possibility of banal attempt at levity increasing subjects predisposition and therefore long term prospects of continued observation of punctuation and appropriate bureaucratic auspices potentially increased.
Actual remaining biological parts, mostly basic nervous and digestive systems. Substantial portions of original brain also.
Vestigial remains of distal, middle and proximal phalanx still present on digitus quartus manus of left metacarpus. Reasoning unknown.
Major Lockwood, I hope that this is not too invasive a question but... I’ve heard it said that Kasrkin Commandos receive cybernetic implants to enable them to casually march with line guardsmen while carrying twice the gear. Is there any truth to this? If so as a Kasr what were your implants. Same to other Kasr’s in the Edges. And to other stormtroopers if any would like to answer. How prevalent are minor cybernetics?
Aww, that’s not invasive. As far as I know it’s pretty normal for Kasrkins and similar elite troops to opt for augmentations before they are necessarily needed. I’m actually probably a little unusual in how little of me is modified. All I have is some synth muscle replacements in my lower back.
In addition to his eye - which was necessary, I think Jacobi also has sub dermal armour and a few augmetic joints.
Now Rolm, who I admit we haven't talked about much lately, he seems to have all sorts of things going on but - he’s also mindwiped sooo... he probably doesn't even know what he has.
Commissar Raege, following a recent question about cybernetics I’ve come to wonder. What was it like getting a replacement shoulder? Does it ever feel weird? Hurt? Ache? Ever give you any problems?
The sensation is relatively similar. If anything the strangest thing is how it doesn’t fatigue like flesh does. If I spend all day doing heavy bag work, one shoulder feels tired, the other does not. It has augmented strength behind it, so if I lift something with both arms, there is a sense of imbalance as one is clearly doing more of the work, but I try and shift my weight to compensate.
It hasn’t altered my combat much. Before my augment, I tended to favour my left anyways, I would work someone defence down with lefts and feints before delivering a dropping shot with my right. Same premise is still in place its just that now with the augmetic shoulder, the final right is more devastating than it was.
It took her way to long to get used to. She was meant to be giving some creep an interrogation punch. Just destroyed their head.
Now, don’t get me wrong, we were gonna kill them anyways - or maybe the inquisition was - and we had other folks to get the information from but it was really obviously just incompetence not intimidation.
She just gave me this dumb shrug like a kid who’d put a ball through a window.
It’s got segmented plates it it for armour and flexibility, so sometimes my hair gets caught in it if when I’m coming out of the shower. That’s the only real problem.
Her woeful lack of understanding of human musculature and the nature of augmetics is part of the problem. She, undoubtedly, thinks the shoulder is just plopped on top of her arm, where her old shoulder was. She doesn’t realise that the muscle of the upper arm shoulder are connected to many muscles lower down, so that she actually has, at least some degree of sub-dermal augmetics and synth muscle running almost to her finger tips.
I really had to insist that she start drinking with her left hand after about the forth glass.
Ragged Edges, this is Commissar Fiorenzi again. Today I’m reaching out to ask for advice on armaments. For whatever reason when I received my sash and hat I wasn’t issued a dedicated execution pistol, only receiving a Chainsword and a Mark IV Laspistol. Having spent little of my pay since then I have some savings so I was hoping that given the wide array of armaments used by the Ragged Edges that either your more experienced Commissar, or some of your guardsmen could suggest a weapon.
You have options. None of them are the wrong choice, don’t worry.
Use the laspistol AS the execution pistol. That’s generally done from close range, so the comparatively low potency of the laspistol wont be a problem.
Not to be impertinent, sir, but are you sure that’s wise? Between a soldiers flak helmet and their skull, the las shot might not make it all the way through. It could leave them unharmed or, most beastly of all, could end up slowly burning out their brains from the inside.
Ha ha! REALLY? Like, the las shot just bounces around their skull and cooks their brain?!
Erm...yes..takes about a minute for the victim to die. Makes them thrash about in the most ghastly fashion. A bit like a dying insect.
AWWWESOOOME..
Enough.
When you execute someone you don’t shoot someone through the direct back of the head, or the side. If they’re wearing a helmet, its not necessarily going to work. You aim between the occipital bone and the atlas. Unprotected on most uniforms. Dead in seconds. If that’s not an option your best option is to shoot them through their soft pallet. If they don’t wear a helmet, and you get the chance, then behind the ear is fine too.
But anyways.
On a commissar’s salary, and maybe with a little luck you should be able to switch to something with a little more bite or at least intimidation as your primary sidearm.
I favour a high end, custom tooled, autopistol, but something that scatters shell casings and has that much recoil might not be what you’re looking for if your melee weapon is something with as much finesse and balance as a chainsword.
There’s also the plasma pistol, which is just a beautiful weapon. It looks good. It SOUNDS good and its not a bad little distinctive weapon. Remember: as a commissar you’re sort of a performer as well. A gun that launcher miniature exploding suns at the enemy is pretty impressive.
Especially if you actually hit something with it...
I cannot, as a physician, recommend plasma weaponry.
It may be effective but you’re taking a chance every time you pull that damn trigger. Save it for mad people like the commissar and that ludicrous techpriest. You have your whole life ahead of you. Still might be short, but give yourself a chance.
The commissars is well maintained. A priceless archeotech find and I’ve still had her in 2-3 times for hand burns. On a starting salary/ Without inquisition backing? You’re basically just holding a bomb. If you buy a cheap plasma pistol, the next thing you better save for is a bionic hand.
My advice? Not as a doctor but as a soldier? Save a little longer. Get a bolt pistol. Even the cheapest among them is reliable, intimidating and powerful.
No argument.
It is a classic commissar weapon. A status symbol. Even a glancing shot with one is devastating. The noise it makes is practically a weapon. Usefully it also has minimum recoil. Keep an eye on your shots, though. Bolt pistol only holds about 8 rounds.
Most of my students ended up using a bolt pistol, actually.
Oh yeah, you used to teach this sort of thing huh?
It’s weird hearing you sound informed.
Naw, man, naw. Use ya cash to keep on tricking out the ol’ flashlight.
Expand the clips, customise the grip, put an omni-scope on it, a fire selector, an over charge pack and load it up with some hot shots. All of that tricking out will probably still cost less than most fancier weapons and the end result will be a cheap to maintain, free to reload, reliable as all shit, armour punching badass little unit.
Get yourself a stub automatic for executions. You can always double tap if you gotta.
Then, just keep saving. If you can ever afford it - go big. Get yourself something balla like a refractor shield or a needle pistol. Don’t hear about a lot of commissars using that sorta weapon. You could be the first.
