📅 September 30th, 1998 , Leon Kennedy’s first night in Raccoon City.💔
Here’s a little Chreon canon-divergent whump snippet to honour the day:
The station was too quiet.
Every step Chris took echoed in the dark, his flashlight cutting across blood and broken furniture. The silence pressed down on him, heavy and waiting. He moved like a shadow, rifle ready, breath tight in his lungs.
Then he heard it. A ragged cough, followed by the scrape of something shifting weakly against the floor.
Chris’s heart lurched. He swung toward the sound, finger tightening on the trigger. Something slumped near the reception desk, too still, too dark to make out.
Light fell across a face, and the figure jerked upright with a gasp, dragging a pistol up in both hands.
“Stay back!” The voice cracked with terror. The kid’s hands were trembling so badly that Chris almost expected him to drop the weapon.
Chris lowered his rifle a fraction, keeping his voice calm but firm. “Easy. I’m not infected. I’m here to help. I’m with S.T.A.R.S”
The kid’s huge blue eyes flicked wildly between Chris and the gun in his hand, chest heaving. Up close now, Chris could see the uniform. R.P.D. blues, smeared with blood, collar askew.
“Wait a second…” Chris’s brows drew together. “You’re a cop too?”
The kid swallowed hard, lowering his gun an inch. His voice was barely more than a rasp: “Officer… Leon S.Kennedy. RPD, sir.”
Chris’s gut twisted. This couldn’t be real. “Kennedy…You’re the rookie?”
The rookie nodded once, like it cost him everything. “Yes sir. Supposed… to be my first day.” A broken laugh slipped out, hollow and exhausted. “Hell of a welcome, huh?”
The pistol sagged from his grip then, clattering to the floor as his knees buckled. Chris lunged forward, catching him by the shoulder before he hit the ground.
“Easy, rookie,” Chris murmured, steadying him. He could feel the tremors running through Leon’s frame. “You did good making it this far.”
Leon’s eyes fluttered, glassy and unfocused, but a faint smile tugged at his lips as if just hearing someone say that was enough. “Thankyou sir” he said, words slurring together. A second later, his weight slumped fully against Chris’s chest.
Chris tightened his hold, the full weight of realization sinking into him. The poor kid had walked straight into hell on his very first night.
